Beginning this season, BIG teams will be required to submit player availability reports 2 hours prior to the games. As a fan, I do appreciate this.

As a degenerate gambler, I do appreciate this.

I know some say that these kids are basically professionals, but I prefer that amateur athletes and their injuries not be announced to the public. Old fart, I know….
Does the availability report rule require that the nature of the injury be reported?

Also, I wonder if back in the day, a status of “being in Joe’s doghouse” would have landed a guy on the report ;)

Hopefully the announcement is like Joe would say it, he’s got a knee or he’s got a shoulder

given the level of gambling this should have been done a while ago. How does the 2 hour compare to NFL approach?
Still quite a bit different. I guess it's similar in that NFL player availability is also made public a couple hours before the game but the NFL also has specific injury designations and practice participation reports throughout the week. Typically by game day you already have a some idea if someone will be available to play, but there are still some game time decisions that come out just a little before kickoff.

With all of the gambling tie ins it's only a matter of time until all of CFB is forced to report more openly with injuries.

my neighbor is a former HS coach, and he got an invitation from a gambling site to work as a "spotter" for them - pay was pretty decent. he would cover two schools in the region. He needs to get to practices and take pictures of players who are not participating and looking for the typical injury stuff - walking boot, shoulder strap, crutches, knee brace, etc. If the player was not at practice he finds out where they are at and gets pics. essentially private eye.

Why is it necessary to add availability reports to support the gambling community? Obviously I don’t have any interest in gambling and I don’t understand why college football needs to change to support those interested in gambling. Isn’t not knowing who will play simply part of the gamble?

Like everything else today, I suppose gamblers are “entitled “ to know who is playing…and if the change is to prevent cheating by those with inside info on whose available, the gambling community needs to address this on their own without college football changing their rules to accommodate the gamblers.

How long before they plant hidden cameras around the practice fields? That would be much more cost effective than paying someone to scout for possible injuries.
