I'm amazed I didn't see a BBM reaction post. So here's mine.
I think Noah is gonna see significant PT as a 3 point weapon. As long as he keeps his confidence up.
That A Jelanavic could give Noah a run for his money on 3's was encouraging. I was hoping Kam would have done that.
When they ran the scrimmage a lot of folks were hitting threes particularly, Kam, Lowe, Johnson encouraging.
So it seems like Aberdeen may be back up PG, I'd say

love this team.

I am really fired up also. We had a great season last year, even though it felt like we were missing some key parts. Coach Pope has a full deck this year. He might even have an ace up his sleeve....

It was great to see the fans, team interacting and having so much fun. Noah and Jelavic's 3 point shooting was unbelievable. Nice to see John Wall and his "assist" to Chandler to win the dunk contest. Pope was fun as always. The women's program is looking good as well.

Chandler really looks ready to break out this year. Kam Williams' one-try-allowed no warmup halfcourt shot at the very end sure seemed like a good sign.

Trent Noah looked like a 6'5" Travis Ford out there

Agree with everything and must add I’m super excited about the team but it’s pretty remarkable what Kenny Brooks is doing with the women’s team. They have the number one recruiting class I’m pretty sure. Does he win a championship here in the next few years?

Does he win a natty? Does he turn us into a UConn South Carolina LSU? Or does one of those teams poach him? He seems to be able to do what he needs to do here. I think he has support but I’m also clueless when it comes to the women’s team. Just hard not to notice he kinda is the man.
I hope he does. I would love to have him and Pope have a UCONN like run together.

So does the guy that kept missing the halfcourt shot get the 5K out of Pope's pocket or does Kam get it? I never heard it declared, lol.

My biggest reaction was that Oweh still isn’t participating. Our two best players are both currently out.

I'm anxious for the Purdue exhibition game. That will be a good early test even if it is preseason. The game already has the feel of a tournament game.
Should be fun.
I'm glad we're doing it. It doesn't count and as long as we don't get blown off the court, it will be a good thing win or lose.

But yes, I want to win that game. Soundly. Because I think Purdue is always overrated, and two I don't care for Painter. I don't think he's all that. Decent coach, but everyone seems to kiss his butt like he's the second coming of K.

Yeah… I’m optimistic about the season, but can’t help but be incredibly frustrated we are yet again entering the season with questions around injuries to key players, and timelines for returning.

He's got the best chance of any coach we've had in decades. I liked Mitchell but he certainly lost it a bit towards the end. I think Brooks is the real deal though- great coach that was held back a bit at VT with resources. Now he's at a MAJOR conference program. He's gonna make noise. And I loved he said "we're going for a national championship"

Hell yes. It's always been an embarrassment that our men's program has kicked major tail while our women's program could get run off the court by a good HS team.

My biggest bright point was not Noah's amazing shooting, or Chandler's breakout, or even Kam's half court.

It was one of the announcers that said, "These guys compete in EVERYTHING- they get mad when they don't have a ranking metric" or something to that effect.

THIS is what you want to hear. That means our guys are looking to best one another but also play as a team.

I want dudes that don't settle. Ever.

If you want to settle, dig a hole and jump in. NEVER stop getting better- never stop growing.

It's a bit cliche since its from an anime but its absolutely true: there is a difference between those who aim for the top and those who'll settle and that difference MATTERS.

So when I hear our guys are competitive and constantly aiming for the top? I get pretty freaking excited.

Kam hit a couple of threes in the scrimmage, not so good in the contest, nailed the half-court. Best 3pt average of anyone new coming in. I'm gonna hold out hope that this 6'8" guard can hit his threes in games and be pretty special. And he's an athlete. On defense he might make it hard for shooting guards like Lainer (I know he's gone) to shoot over him.

He’s a damn good coach, he gets more of his talent than most. That’s why they will be really dangerous this year because they have some top college talent again.

Now wait a minute. Mitchell built the women’s team into a top 20 program. Let’s not forget that.

He was incredible at building the program from the worst program in the power 5, to a very respected one. I‘m not letting anyone short change what he did here.

Brooks, didn’t exactly put on a coaching clinic in the Sweet 16 loss to Kansas St. He’s off to a great start here, but, Matthew Mitchell built this program from the worst power 5 program, into a respected top 20 program.

He went 281-125 in 14 season here. including 119-69 in the incredibly tough SEC. Went to 3 Elite Eights.

Kentucky Women’s basketball was a complete embarrassment when he was hired.

I’m not letting anyone get away with forgetting that Matthew Mitchell built the women’s team into a really solid program, not Brooks. Hopefully, Kenny can win a championship, we’ll see, but, don‘t ever gloss over what Matthew Mitchell did for us.

He wasn’t “losing it” at the end of his career here either. His last 2 seasons here, he went 25-8, and 21-7. That’s not “losing it”.

I didn't mean for that to come of that way. Mitchell did a lot here, but like seemingly a lot of our other great coaches (including Cal, Tubby, etc) he ran out of a lot of steam towards the end; especially recruiting wise. We had a bunch of players leave too near the end of his tenure. I like Mitchell a lot but I think it was clear it was time for a change.

He didn’t run out of steam. His last two season here, he went 25-8, and 21-7. He retired suddenly, because he fell on a hiking trip, and suffered a severe head injury. For whatever reason, he decided to retire, instead of taking a year off.

By the way, he unretired this year, and will be starting his first season as the head coach of Houston. I’ll be rooting like hell for him.

Great to see you back posting again though. You’re one of the better ones on here. We won’t always agree, but, It would be boring if everyone agreed on everything.
