Big compliment from Dan Shulman on the early start Rupp crowd

Even though ESPN lowers the volume on crowd noise - unlike CBS - you could tell it was really loud in there. "Big Game Rupp" delivers ... and it 100% boosts the play of the team. Always has, always will. Human nature.

I'm curious - what goes on at Rupp that results in the first 4-5 rows behind the scorer's table being nearly completely empty to start the second half? It's consistent, even for yesterday's game. Are they being held back by an usher and a rope until the next whistle? Are the ice cream lines just that damn long? Do people forget when the 2H starts? Do they not realize momentum is huge in sports? I wonder these things every time I watch on tv and see this pattern .... (Florida scored 6 points in about :20 before the crowd realized the second half started .....)

That’s awesome.
Shows fans are invested in this team and coaching staff.

It’s truly a good feeling in seeing our fans passion to be ROCKING RUPP ARENA!!!
Staying over after games to just see the post game.
It’s truly great in seeing these young men getting the rock star treatment from the BBN.

I noticed that too. It bothers me. If I had seats that good I wouldn't miss a second of action

Bathroom lines and many of those first few rows are older folks, so they need more time in the can to adjust their depends and other undergarments. :)

Kidding aside, the lines for the bathroom can be long. Also beer and snack/food lines are longer at halftime.

He’s right. Both teams played great, the crowd was really charged, everything went right yesterday. Maybe we should try more of these early 11:00 a.m. starting times.

Now if he and Bilas would just stop blathering about ice cream at every UK game. That bit has gotten annoyingly old.

It's never gonna happen. They do it every game and I just ignore it.

I actually get the feel that Bilas wants to stop with the ice cream bit, but ESPN keeps pushing it (pressure from Rupp to drive "free" advertisements?). I think he's at the point where he just wants to enjoy it and not have the production crew keep making a big deal out of it.

But in today's world of "profit, profit, profit", it would not surprise me at all if the Rupp management asks or even insists that ESPN / Bilas keep plugging their ice cream so the lines stay long and they make more $$$.

Yep 90% of the repetitive things we get upset with (ice cream, WCS played WR, Flagg was 17, etc) are probably executive decisions.

Those fans in those seats are going to private restrooms at the clubs and getting their food in the clubs. Guess they like making their grand re-entrance.

That’s an issue with a place like Rupp. They can make all the cosmetic improvements they want, and the place is beautiful now but it’s still a 50 year old arena underneath and there’s no way short of demolishing half of the place to create luxury boxes or other amenities that would allow some of that lower level to open up to students and regular fans. Kansas, Duke, and a lot of other programs have arenas that are older and have their traditions, just wish we would have established something better for the students to be more of a factor from the day Rupp opened. We just let dollars dictate.

That's a pretty impressive compliment considering the number of sports venues his visited.

Rupp was absolutely rocking. I love when the games are like that. Why can’t we have that atmosphere more? It’s soooo good when it’s like this.

One thing I’ve always enjoyed about the crowd at Rupp is that they actually follow the game. Too many college sports venues are filled with kids bouncing up and down for two hours and hoping to get on TV so the event is all about them. The Rupp crowd is laid back and relatively quiet when there’s nothing to cheer for. But when the action on the court warrants it, the crowd is as loud and rowdy as any in America. As it should be!

Agree.
I was at the game and Rupp was crazy loud during the runs.
I really don't understand people wanting Rupp to be more like Cameron.
A party atmosphere for kids who really don't care about basketball doesn't push them over the top.
Rupp is the #1 venue in CBB for real fans of the game.

Agree, Bills can feel when something is worn out. Like somebody telling the same joke over and over, just doesnt work. Amazing that TV folks can’t seem to feel fhat

If more games are against Top 10 to Top 20 opponents, and many on the schedule are this year thanks to a ridiculously stacked SEC, then you’ll have that atmosphere more as well. You KNOW the Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Auburn games are going to be bonkers.

It’s only natural the crowd intensity drops in relative fashion when Brown, Colgate, and Lipscomb come to town.

I hope for more of a blow out, but pray the crowd is this fun when Arkansas comes to town. I'm flying up for that one.
