Word out of Ames is that the secret scrimmage is going well....

Matt Nicholson leads the Cats with 47 points and 25 rebounds at halftime.

Show me a box score that says otherwise!

At some point this season, I think Nicholbomb will go off and have a big offensive game—double digit points and boards, to go with strong defensive play.

Will a banner be raised to the rafters with his number the following home game?

You aren’t going out on a limb here.

If he just made his layups, it would be a game changer. That is a skill that is teachable/learnable; but There is usually little time devoted to it in team practices because of time limitations. It requires three or four players to work together on their own time to practice it (e.g. players with brooms or long plastic arms around the basket trying to block the shooter going up for the shot; basically learning to “be strong” and focusing on the shot and not the defenders’ arms).

this thread is pretty entertaining if you start at the beginning and read what everybody had to say.
Admittedly, the scars of the 2021-22 season hadn't fully healed and the departures of Nance, Young and Simmons were still burning.

What does "not making layups" mean? Contested layups in traffic and/or shots near the basket with a defender at your back? The kid doesn't lack for strength. Often shots get blocked when the offensive player doesn't have equal skill with both hands and is attempting to make a shot with his dominant hand even when it is the hand closest to the basket. In Basketball 101 that is a no-no. Make a shot with the hand away from the basket and the defender's hands. When the defender is the same size as you are these correct mechanics make a difference.

Relative to the majority of takes in Big Matt before the season, it is.

I believe more in Big Matt than I do the chupacabra, Yeti, and Shamwow.
