It seems the league wants to give Washington a huge break this year. I see they are playing Minnesota and Iowa at night. As if going west isn't advantage enough.

This is what the B1G wanted when they expanded out west. Late night time slots each week and warm trips out west in November.

Yep, I wonder what the TV ratings were for that purdue ucla game, how many midwestern purdue/big 10 fans stayed up late to watch that game. It was a high scoring game but those purdue players were kicking off and midnight their time.
Short week Friday night games to the coast are brutal. Same true for the West teams coming East. Shouldn't happen.
First off, the unbalanced schedule is many times a liability or a good thing for those teams that have 5 home vs 4 home league games each year. And dont say it balances out from year to year because teams dont play for a multi-year Big 10 league championship trophy. A 10 game Big 10 schedule evens some things out.
But as you said Iowa at Washington is a Friday night game so one less day for Iowa to recover from OSU, practice etc. Does Iowa fly charter early friday, play the game , and then get out of Dodge? If Iowa travels on the Thursday before the Wash game they tend to injuries and stretch out on the Sunday after OSU, Monday is maybe film day and then they practice two days before traveling. That is a tall order. Perhaps they practice on Monday also
I hate these friday games unless both teams are coming off of a bye.
AI says it's no hassle at all. Go back to regional conferences. This coast-to-coast stuff is BS. You wanna play a west coast team, play 'em in the nonconference like it used to be. Sometimes "progress" is simply stupidity dressed in dollar signs.
They are 20 year olds that can stay out to 3am partying. They are fine. They ain't like us old people.
I was just going to say the same thing. While most of us are heading to bed the night is just beginning for the college crowd.
20 year olds are certainly more able to deal with it, but it's still unbalanced. The traveling team is at a disadvantage. Also, there are staff and coaches involved as well. It affects them too.

I believe once Iowa went to the morning practice schedule, this is typically their routine....
Sunday - Film review
Monday - Off day
Tuesday - Heavy Practice
Wednesday - Heavy Practice
Thursday - Walk thru
Friday - Brief walk thru
Sat - game
For a Friday game at Washington, my guess is since practices are in the morning, they would leave on Wednesday late afternoon, check into the hotel, coach meetings, etc. Then Thursday would still be a walk thru, team meal Thursday night, then Friday game.
I know that no one in the B1G cares about this, but there are also....FANS. No, fans don't prepare and suit-up for games, but it shouldn't be so difficult for local fans to watch their team for a conference game.
The B1G is going to keep having Friday night games and keep having teams travel multiple time zones for conference games, but there should be some scheduling rules in place:
1) The road team for a Friday night game should not be traveling more than one time zone away unless they are coming off a bye week.
2) When a West Coast team is traveling East, the kickoff should not be earlier than 11 am Pacific time.
3) When a Midwest/East Coast team is traveling West, the kickoff should not be later than 9 pm Eastern time.
These guidelines would not be that hard to follow.
Long term I think Iowa is the biggest winner in scheduling.

Yeah. You can't get a much easier slate of games. Maybe Rutgers, Northwestern (maybe not this year), and Purdue.
You've said that before. How many trips to the West coast have you made? I made hundreds in my career. It takes several days for your internal clock to adjust. Starting a game at 10 PM CST, and wrapping up at 1:30 to 2:00 AM is really hard, don't care how old you are
We played them at 11am few years ago. Works both ways.
but this question was brought up to McCollum for trip out west when we played Oregon and UW. Said he spoke about it to the team zero times. Worry about what you control. No built in excuses. He had the exact right mindset for our game at Wash that tipped off 10pm local time.
Um, because humans are typically awake from 9 am-noon much more than they are 11 pm - 2 am?

I bet the football players aint staying out that late, they have rules and they probably police each other. Too many drunks want to take a pot shot at the big time athletes plus athletes do stupid also
With a night game, I highly doubt they would travel Wednesday. They gain two hours so they can leave Thursday morning and still arrive for a walk thru in the afternoon.
They may not go to ped mall. But they still have some fun. I am just saying to a 20 year old they have a ton more energy than a 50 year old.
Talking about getting g breaks… Michigan has 8 f’ing home games this year? That’s INSANE and BULLSHEET
I think they created this years schedule years ago. They tried to create as much balance as possible but there’s only so much you can do imo
You rotate 4 and 5 conf home games. Last year Michigan had 4 and played at OU and ended up with 6. All evens out instead of the normal 7 and 7.
