If Indiana wins it all this year, does the Big Ten have a solid argument that they have overtaking the SEC as the best football conference? It would be three straight.

It would be difficult to argue if Indiana wins. I thought OSU or GA had the best chance of beating Indiana. I love an underdog story. I am pulling for Indiana.

Well it’ll be them or Oregon playing for the natty to continue carrying that torch for their league.
At this point it just solidifies there is a 1a 1B. Still work to do to overtake a conference that has dominated the last 2 decade IMO.

I am also on the Indiana train.

NCs matter...to a point. But, would you say ACC was the best conference for the couple years that CU won the NC?
Same here. Big Ten gap definitely closed with SEC in the last 3-4 years due to Transfer portal/NIL.....but still not as good as the SEC top to bottom.
Especially if you matched the conf. teams up to play even vs. even....which never happens in bowls.
eg= SEC #1 vs. Big 10 #1, 2 vs 2, etc.

I think it’s enough to say SEC and Big 10 are the dogs and all other leagues are pups.
Agreed. I guess you can look at this a lot of different ways. Top to bottom as someone has mentioned. If you put their top 4 teams against our top 4, we may win one or two. Our middle and lower teams may be better than theirs but the gap overall has certainly closed.

They could say that THIS year, they have a better TOP TIER than SEC, however OSU is their second best team and they are sitting home with Georgia for the remaining Playoffs. I stilll think Top to Bottom SEC is much stronger..

I hate to admit this but the Big 10 is better than the SEC this season. I’m not Georgia fan but I think they could hang with Indiana. Otherwise the next three in the SEC are not as strong as the Big 10s next three in my opinion.

Some of you are losing me with the top to bottom argument. Now let me say, arguing who has the better lower tier teams is a ridiculous and unwinnable argument on a message board.
WIth that said, look at the bottom part of the SEC, Arkansas, Kentucky, Auburn, UF (yes, they deserve to be there),MSU, and yes Carolina.
4 of those teams were so bad they fired their coaches, Carolina kept their HC, but has replaced a majority of the staff.
That is a whole lot of turmoil/transition to simply ignore, and then claim that this lot is much better than an another conference.

Agreed. All anyone cares about is which conference wins the Natty. When the SEC was winning it every year, we were pumping our chest. Now that they have won back to back, we are moving to the dept argument. If you want to argue top tier teams (3-4 of each conference top teams), I think we lose that argument this year.

The SEC has definitely taken the biggest step back in the new era. The quality is way down to the point there's not a whole lot of difference between them and others. Heck Clemson put it on us more than any other SEC team did at home this year. UGA beat G. tech by a td 16-9. Miami beat Texas am and Virginia beat Missouri. Indiana is light years better than any SEC team this year. Things can and do change however. While the SEC is not that power juggernaut it has been it will still produce title teams for sure but this is not the SEC it was 4-5 years ago.

The SEC sucked in basketball a few years ago to the point Sankey convened a group to figure how to make SEC hoops better. It worked.Might be time to convene a group to figure out the best way to navigate the Portal/NIL era.
