OK State just won their first Big 12 Championship since tying with Oklahoma in 2021 and now a lot of you are looking for all the negatives of the Big 12 team championship. You have a first-year coach with wrestlers who have done nothing but improve all year, some I would say overachieved. And you have some of the best recruits out there coming in over the next two years. Tell me again, what the problem is? Spratley slipped and wrestled better against Jett than he did last time. Happel is Jamison's kryptonite but gets closer each time. O'Toole is only a 4x AA, 2x National Champ, Hamiti gets him if they see each other again. Keck 4x AA, 1x National Champ and is just the better wrestler than Plott. Surber has surprised everyone this year and is still having a great season. Wyatt won it beating a 4x AA. This team is going to be fine, and the future teams have a very bright future! Great job OK State and to those of you looking at the positives!

Fair. But you get what I mean. Size disadvantage was not the problem… excepting that ginormous strickenberger
Troy is not a small 25, but he is likely a 4 yr 25. He’s not huge, but he’s far from Small. Strickenberger is a HUGE 25.

Tagen is a huge 41.

DJ spent 3 years at 65.

Plott spent 3 years at 74

Surber spent 2 at heavyweight.

Size isn’t a problem.

How does Northern Iowa and Northern Colorado etc keep their big name guys? I figured bigger schools would steal them with more money.

I also said a couple years ago that while I can’t stand Schwab the dude can coach and deserves a big name job. I recall saying that when they beat us in Stillwater a few years ago.

I think there are far fewer “big money” schools with boosters willing to reach out to these guys in than there are in other sports. And I think outside of 4-5 programs, the NIL is all roughly the same.

We’ve become very good at eating our own the last few year. Interesting shift in our fan dynamic. Not sure it’s a good shift

Just some small facts resulting from the late night and being too excited to sleep.

UNI returns 69 points from 5 of their current starters.

OSU returns 46.5 from 3.

We have some catchup to play

UNI returns 125 Anderson (#17); 133 Farber (#18), 157 Downey (#10); 174 Simma (#20); 197 Voelker (#7)

Iowa State will also bring a great roster next year. They bring back everyone except 184 Bockman and 125 Terukina, plus they'll return some hammers that took medshirts: Swiderski, Echemendia, and Bastida, who will come in as the favorite at HWT

It seems like their guys are loyal to the program. Schwab's team has really bought into him and it shows with how good of a team they have become. Having those senior leaders on the team has helped this program also. They will have some big holes to fill next year though with Happel, Realbuto, Keck, and Runyon all graduating. I do not see a lot of big names coming in though.

Hendrickson, not much you can say about him other than I wish we had a few more years of this kid. Not only is he a monster on the mat he is a great leader and remodel. I hope he isn’t hurt. Pistols firing has a interview with him post tournament I think you all should watch. Everything he says is awesome. I think he is going to be a great coach someday and am extremely excited that he is sticking around the program.

Not as much as you think. Two wrestler difference.

If you think that we don't find 2 guys to fill our lineup that place 4th, you are crazy. However, we have to find 7 that, two of which at least place 4th to get us even and then the other 5 have to be better.
i fully know we will fill the lineup. The only place i can think of where there might be a significant drop off is HWT. Lots of time to figure it out. But that is what i do on Sunday night (Monday morning this year) is start looking forward.

Heavyweight clears out next year. Two guys that redshirted this year are Bastida and the guy from Campbell that AA's last year. It is always tough to wrestle a true freshman at heavyweight. Not sure if either of those guys will enter the portal. I cannot see Iowa or PSU competing in the portal as they have young heavyweights on the way.

I think most osu fans were disappointed in the finals because we had done so good up to that point. We expected the same in the finals. But we won and it should prepare the coaches and wrestlers for nationals

And we'll see if DT has the same recipe as Carl regarding NCAAs. Typically the practices prior to conferences are a bit harder. If guys show up as a better version of themselves than this past weekend - it's going to be a great finish for you guys.

Schwab has done a great job and UNI is a top 10 program right now. Flo has them ranked #4 in dual rankings and #9 in team tournament. Not sure he can find a much better coaching position than the one he is already in.

No, but there are a few places that aren't in as good of a position as UNI that could sure use him.

Merrill beats anyone in the B12 whether hes 184 or 197. Happel and alirez are gone so Tagen is the favorite if he stays 41 but even at 49 he's the fav imo (he beats anyone from ISU)) . If Dee goes right away he wins it. Troy will make the finals again.

We have holes but DT will go to the portal if he's not confident in who we have to fill them. I say we get 3-4 next year. We'll be right in the mix to win it again.

We will have the following top 5 wrestlers next year. Troy, Jamieson, Dee, Merrill, Doucet/Portal.

Then we will have open spots at 133, 141/149 depending on where Tagen goes, 157, 174, 184. I think DT will hit pretty hard for one of 174/184.

My comments last June were that if DT went hard this year with the use of transfers in 2024-25, OSU would see a slight dip in 2025-26. I still see that. Lineup stability and growth begins in earnest in 2026-27 and going forward.

I had thought OSU would take second this year and they still might, but did not see Iowa buying every available resource just to try and place 2nd.

A few additions to what vhs posted, not that I think any are particularly likely, but I do think they are reasonably possible.

Jett Strickenberger was interviewed on the BEG Wrestling podcast today. Pretty interesting guy, sounded like it was a predetermined thing to celebrate like that in the dual, but maybe it came off as more aggressive than he intended. He talks about the GIA atmosphere being really loud and much more

Doucet and Thompson are good room guys but if they are 2 of our 10 starters along with the guys we currently have at 133 who I don't think are anywhere close to being AA level right now, we are going to struggle against the top teams. We need to hit the portal for sure IMO. I also wasn't super impressed with what I saw out of Hughes, especially after all the hype
