Bigger QB problem

Sellers staying or leaving is an issue for next season but the bigger QB problem is, who plays qb next season if Sellers leaves? It doesn't appear any of the backups are particularly good right now. Noland can't beat out Doty for the #2 spot and Doty will probably be gone next season since he will be Social Security and Medicare eligible.

If Beamer's seat is as hot as it looks like it is going to be, what good QB will want to transfer in and have the pressure of saving the coach's job on his shoulders?

A QB that would come, would be one that has one year left and wants to play and get paid, but your right, Beamer may have to gamble on a lower level guy, that wants a chance. That did work for Ole Miss.

For Cutter Woods, they may want to start playing him more in these blowout losses to see what we have.

I know this won't go over well but logically speaking, it is the correct move:

After we get blown out by A&M, bench Sellers and give Woods the entire 1st half against Coastal and Noland the entire second half. (or vise versa, whatever)

Then start Sellers for the Clemson game in the 1st qtr and rotate the other 2 in the 2nd and 3rd qtr and then in the 4th qtr go with whichever of the 3 had the best qtr. - It's all meaningless at this point so getting them all playing time and seeing what they got makes perfect sense. << Which is exactly why it won't happen. Makes too much sense.

Question: did bad coaching ruin Sellers or is he just having a sophomore slump?
Coaching and a bad 2025 OL, on coaching you could see a change in the bowl game last year, Shula emphasized trying to get him to stay in the pocket more and make plays from the pocket.

Shula did not seem to me to be one of those coaches who would adapt his play calling or scheme to the talent available, thus all the runs up the middle on critical downs when your IOL is very weak and struggling and not performing well.

If we lose to A&M, is it worth starting Sellers if he's headed out of here?

It's all speculation, but it seems odd that once Sellers came into his own under Loggains, he was virtually unstoppable. In every game with Shula, he's been pedestrian.

Not to mention that defenses knew what was coming and were ready.

That's the way I felt too. It was night and day and the only explanation is poor coaching.

They did say in the Ole Miss game that they had TWO spies on Sellers. That's probably been a factor as well.
Seems like the counter to that is you use him as a decoy. But you have to have some talent in the backfield with him. Last year he had Rocket. This year - nada.

I've never been impressed by Seller's ballhandling because he is too slow making decisions. I don't know if that is because Shula put too many ideas in his head and responsibility on his shoulders, or if that is just his nature.

Shula ruined him with play calling and progressions. A smart coach would see 2 spies and take advantage of it. We never take advantage of the defensive risks. LSU blitzed at will and we did nothing. Ole Miss had 2 guys on defense spying? Geez I could find a RB or TE to expose that. Stupid coaching and I don't even think they know they are incompetent.

I don't think Sellers is the sharpest knife in the drawer. I think slow thinking explains a lot of the sacks he takes that could easily be avoided.

When he REPEATEDLY takes a loss when he could have easily thrown it away tells me he has a hard time thinking while chewing gum. Surely a coach would have mentioned throwing the ball away.

Or runs out of bounds 7 yds behind the LOS when all he has to do is throw the ball past the LOS and out of bounds.

Has Sellers played so poorly that his draft stock is low? I think if Beamer can hire an elite OC, fix the line through the portal, and throw the bag at him, Sellers might stay and have some weapons around him next year. Who knows. I doubt he transfers since his brother is here.

My GF, who is an NC State fan her whole life but really knows football in and out......

Who had never even watched a SC game before - has now seen about 3 of our games with me and I was making some comment about Sellers not throwing it / and not throwing it away & REPEATEDLY eating sacks or running out of bounds for a loss...

and I swear to you, this is what she said: "Looks like he's intentionally throwing the games to me."

I was stunned. While I don't think it is true that's he throwing games, I was blown away that - that was her take on what she was seeing as an outsider. She formed that opinion all on her own and stated it with quite a bit of confidence. Again, TO BE CLEAR: I do not believe that, but that's how bad it is apparently. He's not ready for the NFL. At all.

Having said that, I'm ready for him to be gone. He just isn't learning, won't throw it on time, won't throw it away, etc... and unless it's a 50 yard bomb (which he looks for on every single play if you notice...) - he can't hit the broad side of a barn when he does throw it on time and short.

I just don't think he's too bright. If he were betting against his team and got caught (or someone tattles) he would never see a football field again. Stupid use of his NIL money too.

Sellers doesn’t think in terms of playing ‘football’ or ‘quarterback’. He thinks in terms of playing ‘Sellers’ because with his size and speed that’s all he’s ever had to do; out-athlete everyone else which up to this point has been relatively easy, hence the current deer-in-headlight look of late. He runs out of bounds early, slides early, makes ridiculously obvious grounding throws, etc, because he doesn’t think in terms of THE GAME, because he’s never had to.

It’s a valid point, and I’m sure he was the best athlete on the field in every game. He played in high school.

I am frankly just glad that his underwhelming campaign has been matched by the quarterbacks at Clemson, Penn State, and LSU.

Bring in Magnus and let Woods/Noland rotate plays.
