I am a huge fan of the current video board set-up so I am disappointed to see the video boards behind the baskets go away. Also, my preference would be that the student sections remain bleachers behind both baskets.
Those boards can difficult to see from certain areas. Also do you know for a fact that those bleachers are going away? Would like to see some student seats right behind the visitors bench.
I thought it was posted somewhere that the student sections would still have bleacher seating. It'd be a nice way to "pack 'em in" for critical games.
With the balconies behind the baskets, fans can have seats up in the rafters, and still have relatively close sight lines.
I love the look of the continuous video board at the base of the balconies.
All in all, it looks like a great hybrid: modern amenities plus the close-in feel of an old fashioned snake pit.

Agreed with all of this. And I think keeping the ceiling low is sort of a key element of it. That makes for a real cool look and should make it very loud.
Looks great! Has anyone heard what the "ask" is going to be to keep what would be equivalent to current lower bowl seats? I'm currently in Section 110 (northwest corner behind NU bench) and afraid I'm going to have to make a hefty donation (on top of the thousands I've already donated) to essentially stay where I'm at. I hope it isn't the West Lot BS all over again...
Interesting. The visual makes it clear that the planned renovation is more extensive than I had realized.
On first glance I didn't even notice the "loge" tier, but now it looks like it goes all the way around plus in the top right corner (or is that a press area?)
I am personally a huge fan of Welsh-Ryan and would take it any day of the week over those big new spacious arenas, but at the same time know that it needs some updating. LOVE the way this looks and can't wait until it's done, so I can get back in town and catch a game. Good times in NU basketball land these days.
from what i had heard with that it will be a complete tear down with the exception of the big steel support beams that are currently in place. entire new structure built around those.
