What player by class will make the biggest impact to the team this year? My thoughts (hopes) & here is a roster. Not sure if up to date: https://huskers.com/sports/football/roster

Freshman - I think Alante Brown is going to get a shot and be able to showcase that speed.

RedShirt - Ty Robinson hopefully is going to back up his star power and play well on the DL

Sophomore - Clark or Newsome are going to step in and play well at DB

Junior - Vokolek is going to live up to the practice hype and give us a weapon at TE

Senior - Colin Miller is going to have a big year and start to turn the tide of a long-terrible LB group

Colin Miller and Honas will be replaced by years end with younger better replacements once they get up to speed.

I'll take a bit of a different approach. I'll go with

True Freshman - Marvin Scott III

Redshirt Freshman - Luke McCaffrey

Sophomore - Wandale Robinson or Cam Jurgens

Junior - Adrian Martinez or Omar Manning

Senior - Dedrick Mills or Decaprio Bootle

I think if these guys have big impacts, we should have a good season. I want to see the guys you mentioned break out and do some things... but we need all of these guys to go ball out. I think Luke plays a bit of WR, a bit of running back, and a bit of QB. He should be on the field, even if he isn't the starting QB.

Your list looks more like a breakthrough player list vs an impact player list. Or maybe it’s not.

Here are my 5 breakthrough players

FR- Keyshawn Green already the most athletic LB on the team (outside of maybe JoJo) Will be nice to Speed again @ LB vs the ones that choose to wear 50 pound ankle bracelets on their legs. Honorable Mention: Morrison

rFR- Benhart - Has to take the Tackle spot to move
Farniok inside. If Bryce can do that, Matt goes from a weak link on the line to an big time asset. Noteable: Robinson (see OP) and Ethan Piper

Sophomore- Newsome or Clark. Darkhorse: Niko Cooper could end up the pass rushing specialist we haven’t had in 100 years do or.

Junior - Omar Manning: should be a true #1. He will make us see what we’ve been missing all these years. Watch-out for: EMC - see a reoccurring theme to my list with all these LBs? our LBs are just awful, Outside of JoJo. Every spot is open. Last years class was A major athletic upgrade

SR- Jack Stoll wasn’t too far off last year from being a weapon. Had to stay on the line to block a lot and with improvements on the O-Line should be able to go out for receptions more. Also one more year in the weight room, should help getting better separation... If he stays healthy: Deontai Williams could be the best safety in the B1G. Please don’t laugh to hard, I’m serious. Lots of scouts love his ability but can he do it for a full year

Won't D Williams be a junior? I was looking forward to his progression last year because he was great in 2018. aaaaaaaand then he got injured first game.

You could make an argument that those 2 are the least talented projected starters on O or D. Depending on how you view TE.

Miller has also played more than any other LB we have. LB is by far our worst position, and I'm hoping that Colin makes the jump and provides the impact we need to win a few more games. As I've stated in other threads I feel like our LBers have probably cost us 3-5 games in HCSF time here. Miller is very athletic and I'm hoping something finally clicks.

JMO, but this is not a team that is built to grind and win alot of games 13-10. Scott runs an Oregon philosophy of score to win. And we don't really have enough talent on D to make him lean away from that philosophy.

I'd like better LB play or a better DL or whatever, but in any case, we aren't trotting out a shut down D this year, especially with this many young bodies and a punt on the offseason cuz corona.

If Scott gets good QB play this year, we score enough to get bowl eligible. If he doesn't, the seat continues to get warm.

Its QB room or bust for this Husker fan.

Here’s my shot at this. My first one listed is the player who has the biggest break out per class and I’ll list my predictions for both offensive and defensive break out players for the 2020 season.

True Freshman: OFFENSE Zavier Betts (we see true freshman WRs of his caliber starting and playing at Clemson, Bama, OSU and OU Sooners and we need WRs to step it up right away and we seen it last year with Wan’dale Robinson)

DEFENSE: KeShawn Greene (I’m taking a stab here because the man has elite level speed and he’s a heat seeking missle)

RS Freshman: OFFENSE: Bryce Benhart (I don’t even need to explain why here)

DEFENSE: Ty Robinson/Nick Henrichs (Ty is a beast, he has shown to be hard to block and has only gotten better over his time here. Henrichs could have cracked the 2 deep last year had he not gotten hurt)

Sophomore: DEFENSE: Quinton Newsome (we need a nickel DB ready to play and Newsome has already shown flashes of being a great CB)

OFFENSE: Cam Jurgens (technically he has broke out but he had a rough first half and finished off strong. This year he has a great full season)

junior: OFFENSE: Omar Manning (this is as close to a lock as you can get, the mans a legit WR talent and stands 6’4 230 pounds and runs a 4.4 40)

DEFENSE: Deontre Thomas (he’s going to prove to everyone all over again why he was Top 250 4 star DE/DT)

senior: DEFENSE: Ben Stille (he reminds us what he can do on the Dline and tears it up)

OFFENSE: Matt Farniok (he has never been considered “broke out” and this move of him playing left Guard will benefit him and our team greatly. We will see a much better and more improved Matt this year)

I just hope Wandale and Martinez make the list at the end of the year. That would probably mean things went well.

I kind of consider both of them as already “broke out”. Although Martinez took a step back his sophomore year :(

But I ultimately agree

I sure hope Farniok's transition from [deleted]* right tackle to outstanding left guard is the slam dunk it's purported to be.

Sucks that we likely would have been much closer to knowing the names that would be on the list if there was spring ball. There was a nice group of newcomers that were gonna be available for the spring.

Well, the mans already has in game experience and a couple years worth of it. And for the most part, he held his own on the edge against fast and powerful DEs in the BIG 10. His biggest knock is his lack of foot speed and playing guard will help take that area away. This is no way a “slam dunk” but it helps us get our best players all on the field, allows Bryce Benhart to play right tackle and gets him on the field, too.
