Biggest mystery to me is what happened to this guy?

Nicholas (Nick) Singleton Highlights || True Freshman Highlights || Penn State Nittany Lions || RB

Nick's freshman highlights show a highly impactful player that can help win games like the last 3 losses. What in the h#ll happened to him? Is it that he's too stiff and top heavy or an injury in his sophomore year that he never really bounced back from? He showed everything a RB needs to be great; speed, burst, power, elusiveness and vision to find open space. He used to get low and drive through contact. I feel bad for him and any potential future in the NFL.

I don't think he ever showed "vision"--he's a guy that needs the blocking to execute so he can run the play how it's designed
Like Allar, this offense wasn't a good fit for him and with the OL being useless he became subpar
His inability to make the Northwestern defender miss in the open field on our final drive on 2nd down shows the whole problem.

Think allar and singleton were a victim of high school football. Everyone slower and not developed. So they just did what they did. Then in college. Uhoh. Competition 20 times
Better. Then they had to work at it.

Not elusive, poor vision, goes down easily..

Did you actually watch the highlights? Not being able to make the NW defender miss on the final drive is what I'm talking about. He actually made defenders miss in open field as a freshman. He actually showed vision by starting up the middle and using elite speed to bounce it outside for huge runs. Something happened to him either physically or mentally or both to regress sooooooooo much from freshman to senior year. It's not just scheme or poor blocking.

watch the highlights. He showed every bit of why he was the #1 RB in the country his freshman year.

I did...there's not a lot of vision shown. A play or two doesn't mean he has vision.
I think a lot of people underestimate the negative impact of the scheme and blocking to players. It's always in your mind.
It's why the WRs are all garbage. The system doesn't play to what they've had success doing in the past.

It seems that he has largely disappeared as a receiver too. I thought that would be a continued strength coming into this season. Of course, most things I thought about this team coming into this season were wrong. We could probably do a whole thread on that.

Allen always had more upside. Said it then say it now!!
singleton had 3 games over 100 yards Against garbage teams in 2022. He did have a good game again t Utah where he broke one as well.
allen had 2 games over 100 yards against garbage teams as well. Nick had 100 yards more than Nick their freshmen year. The good teams and moving forward teams figured out pretty quick how to stop Nick.
Allen is ahead all time in yards for a reason.
allen always reminded me of a Curtis Enis type of guy. Singleton remind me of Eric McCoo.

Singleton has been misused by 2 horrendous offense coordinator systems (Yurcich and Kotelnicki).

Both OCs struggled with designing plays to get Singleton in space or leverage him as a receiver.

I don’t think it’s reasonable to say he’s been down coached since his freshman year. The only remaining factor is NIL. He is more than likely an NIL millionaire, and has little reason to run hard.
