When you're averaging 10 ypc and getting 2nd and 2s or first downs on every play, play calling gets pretty damned easy. I watched Wisconsin run the same damned run play twice in a row for over 8 yards both times . I suspect they ran that same play more than those 2 times. IF we continue to develop our young O linemen maybe play calling will get that easy for us.

Not with Cav as our Line Coach, but yes you're spot on. Our offensive line is average at best when comes to running the ball.

Bingo, Riley and Chryst worked together for many years, we have better talent at the wide receiver position thus we throw it more and their qb is a game manager. If someone stops their run game for four quarters, they will not be able to throw to win in my opinion.

I agree with this and I think it gives their offensive style a ceiling. They need better WR and a mobile QB who can game manage and tuck and run, and great TE play. All in the same year with the same offensive and defensive success to have any chance playing for a National Title.

I think the jury is still out on whether or not Cav can bring the talent along because IMO we've got some really talented youngsters in the O line. IMO, Cav did about as good of a job with all the injuries last year that you could have asked. I think that the redshirt freshman class is going to be really good as juniors and seniors and IMO the true freshman may end up being the best tackle we've had for a while. We'll see if Cav gets to coach them next year.

People should realize that Wisconsin runs basically a VERY similar offense to what we run. The biggest difference is their offensive line.

Similar in that it’s a pro style offense but they run smash mouth, Nebraska does not run a smash mouth offense. I’d say we’re a more wr based where their more rb based in it’s offensive focus.

With our O line, we almost have to be WR based. We can't impose our will on teams like Wisconsin yet. IMO, we just don't have the horses ready there yet. I don't think our linebackers played flawlessly last night either so that made Wisconsin look maybe better than they are.

I think our OL the first year under Riley were much better run blockers than pass blockers.

I think it's telling that our best players on the offensive line are freshman. Other players have regressed. Cav is a horrible coach.

I don't believe the scheme is the problem, it is the execution of the scheme that is the problem. If the first half we executed the scheme for over 300 yards. If we did that for two halfs and accumulated 650+ yards against Wisconsin people would be happy as hell. The problem is that we did not execute the scheme in the second half.
drop passes poor blocking

Actually when i looked at the glaring difference between the 2 sets.. we are more wr they actually use Hbacks and big TEs... their tight ends were as big as the oline.. honestly i would have liked to see diaco go to a 4 man front and bring 8 or 9 in the box after the 90yard drive... those wideouts were not gonna get behind the dbs.. playaction and te might have got us but at least we could have stopped them in the run game.... thats what i saw

You are prime example of why I haven't set foot on campus since 2004 or thereabouts. Prime time idiot

Absolutely. Do we have the O line yet that they do? I don't think so and we're at least a year away from maybe being able to move people around like that. Our linebackers aren't there yet in being able to stop that kind of attack either. Someday? I think so. People should realize that Wisconsin runs basically a VERY similar offense to what we run. The biggest difference is their offensive line.
you don't have a Barry Alvarez.. he is the godfather of that team.. Chryst, Bielema.. they are just his puppets.. Gary Anderson didn't like walking in on Monday mornings and having a typed game plan and practice schedule from Barry A every week. Wisky will change once Alvarez calls it quits.

Got comped to take my wife to a game around the Callahan era. Fans bitching and moaning during the game. Nobody knew football.

The last great game was Stuntz to Crouch, and I was in the press box for that play.

Exactly, and Scott relies on getting the ball to his athletes in space or creating match-up problems in the passing game, with spread concepts and a mobile QB.

We drop back with a statue and need everything possible to go right in order to be effective.

It won't work. Frost has a more progressive, competent offensive philosophy for CFB success.

If you want to be Wisconsin, need much more OL development and even better RB, great TE, and capable receivers. Personally, I don't like the pro-style scheme, but it works for Wisconsin, because they have this identity. We have no identity.

Not trying to sugar coat anything just pointing out that the last three years we have played the best team in the west fairly close (and I understand that close is not where anyone wants to be). This team just seems like it can't get over the hump. The mental side of the game is beating us more than the physical side in my opinion. But this team has talent and returns alot of the talent next year.

This is precisely how Mike Riley has survived his entire coaching career. He muddles his way through mediocre seasons but his teams will have an inspired performance against a top dog so everyone thinks he’s this great coach. Just because we play a good team close but lose to other very poor teams does not mean we are close. Iowa is closer to Wisconsin at this point. We are 3-3 and haven’t went through Ohio st, Iowa, and penn st yet. We most certainly are not close. Unbelievable.

Our best players are Freshmen because we didn't recruit worth a sh## Bo's last 2-3 years.

You say Unbelievable but you don't even know how many games we have played this year, I was merely pointing out that the last three years we have played Wisconsin fairly close as compared to the previous years, so yes one can argue that we have closed the gap against them. Do you not remember the beatings we took before that because I sure do.

Wisconsin also regularly beats Iowa, Nebraska doesn’t even do that anymore. I think it’s an easier argument to say the gap has widened. It has widened from Wisconsin and even with Iowa. I’ll take a 30 point beating by a team in a championship game instead of playing that team close but only going .500 for the season. Competing for championships means you have to actually make it to the championship game. Something that is a pipe dream with a Riley coached team.

Yet, for years we heard how great guys like Gates/Farmer/Foster would end up. All are in their 4th year of the program. Sorry, very wishful thinking that it's mostly a recruiting issue. I guess we were lucky Conrad got dinged up or else Decker would still be sitting on the bench.

We'll know soon whether or not people who watch practice think it's all a coaching issue. Tom's minions are back in control now and they won't hesitate to make Riley pull the plug on Cav if they think he isn't getting it done (assuming Riley is still here).
