Here's what he had to say about his number one team in his rankings of the 68 best

"If you hadn't noticed before Tuesday, the comeback win against Louisville should seal it. This group is special. This is the best freshman class The Bilastrator has seen in his time in the game. From talent to maturity to athletic character to just plain competing, this group is on a different level. Duke might not win the whole thing, as the best team doesn't always win. However, this is the best team."

That is the most pro-Duke statement I have seen him make publically about his alma mater.

I have to disagree with him. The last team standing is the best there. That is why it is called a championship. Single elimination -- brutle ladder. If we are the best team the evidence will bear it out.

Eh, best team doesn't always win it all. Though I feel this team is going to. If we always wanted the best to win then the tourney should be best of 3 or 5 series instead of single elimination. I'm good with it as is though, always gotta bring your best to win it all.

I don't know why winning Tuesday made Duke the best team. It was a memorable win no question but we would have been the same team if Louisville hadn't choked, or if Cam misses one of the 25 footers he drained.

Duke is the best team, it's a special team, but there are 3 or 4 teams that "on any given day" could upset us. And unfortunately only the Faithful remember the teams that don't win it all.

They may have had the best record that year, but the best team won it all!

What people miss with Bilas is they automatically have a knee jerk assumption that he is pro-Duke because he went there but the reality is for years he has been very tempered about Duke. I can remember when he was adamant that UNC was the best team when Duke "only" had Battier, Jay Will, Boozer, Dunleavy etc. He also wanted to have Harrison Barnes's love child with his obsessively nauseating praise of a somewhat overrated player.

So if Jay is on the Duke train this year it's not the norm despite what haters think.

Everyone should temper expectations though and compartmentalize the season on a game by game basis. NCAA Tournament has a way of humbling every fanbase and things can always derail. Look at the bullet the team already dodged with Tre's injury.

We will just have to disagree. There shouldn't be an " * " by the NCAA title. 2019 NCAA Champion* *-not the best team.

It didn’t “make” Duke the best team, but it highlighted another reason why we are. The dominance of that comeback revealed not just our talent but our character as well. One of the knocks against us is our youth. It was actually on full display for the first 30 minutes of that game. It’s easy for a young team to not bring it each game, especially after arguably our best win of the year, where everyone was telling us how great we are. It was not just number of points that was impressive but the manner in which it was pulled off, the last 9 minutes of a game that both looked and smelled like an egg up to that point. To flip the switch like that required a rare combination of talent and competitive spirit. Something you simply don’t see from a group of freshman. Again, it didn’t make us the best team, but showed again why we are. The more you see of Duke the less doubts you have as to who the best team is. This was another check in our column. Any remaining doubt leading into Louisville should now be gone. I think that is what he’s trying to say.

I think we are the best team. The one concern to me is if we ever need scoring from our bench. Our 2 junior reserves have gotten worse, and there wasn't much room for them to slip. Who ranked Delaurier as a 4 star?

Alex is our mystery guy.

Bingo. We were playing a much deeper bench much longer in the season then we have been in the past. I thought this was great to give the bench the PT required in the stretch. I am concerned that we have fallen back on our old strategy.

Thankful that Jordan rose to the occassion against UoL.

Rankings are based on size, athleticism and what your best 10% of AAU games were. Javin had elite size and athleticism and had some darn good games in high school. He's a high character guy too. Unfortunately, his coordination has plateaued. His hands suck, but everything else is pretty good.

Bilas is a good guy. I met him during a College GameDay once and off camera he came over and said hi to everyone and struck me as someone who really loves his Alma mater. I imagine that he also values his job and that job requires a reputation for being totally unbiased. When the whole world hates Duke, what "unbiased" commentary actually sounds like tends to become skewed. I'd rather him not call Duke games because I'd rather him not be put in a position where he feels he has to overcompensate
