Always been the case. He didn’t call the shots in either the Mack/Davis hiring. He did for the women’s basketball coach.
Maybe the legislature can get involved! They could mandate that Belichik be the UNC head coach, with Bill Cowher at State. They could legislate that their non-conference schedule had to consist of ECU, App, Charlotte, WCU and Pembroke.

I think this is relatively recent. There is no way that Cunningham is only talking to Belichick.

https://keepingitheel.com/a-new-name-gets-thrown-into-the-unc-football-head-coach-search
It was last week. Since then, BB and UNC have had several conversations, including a 5 hr conversation. Belichick said himself he’s spoken with the chancellor and never mentioned Bubba. Bubba doesn’t have the pull that most AD’s are supposed to have. Just like many articles are stating, UNC has “too many cooks in the kitchen”. Chancellor, AD, Board of trustees etc.

I’m skeptical, I think Bill (much like Saban) would’ve been better suited for the old days of CFB. If UNC made this hire in 05 they may have a couple national titles by now but idk how guys like Bill fit into this new CFB world. The tweet that I caught a glimpse of mentioned a “bible” with requirements like a bigger financial commitment to the program and that gave me some hope, if Bill can adapt to this NIL style of CFB the Heels might just be in business.

He's gonna run it like the NFL. All NFL coaches, BB will be the gm. Jordan money will be on the table and buy a team. I've heard 30-40 million in NIL every year. BB and UNC will change the landscape of college football. He's not gonna recruit, he will have a team of recruiters who will. UNC is going to win a lot of games. Kinda like deion is doing at CU but a lot more talent and money

If he can get the school and donors to throw some real money behind the football program then all skepticism basically goes out the window. I have no doubt that he will be able to put together a good staff and get the most out of his players.

I like what you are saying, but I actually think now is the best time for him to make the move from NFL to college. College sports is evolving RAPIDLY into the pro model. I would think it makes sense for someone who is well-versed in salary caps (they're coming), free agency, etc. to take over a P4 program.

Very true. Bill will turn UNC around in one off season. Mark it down

I heard the tail end of a conversation on NFL radio this morning regarding a shared fund that all schools will have to pay players. I wish I caught more but its evidently a recent ruling that would essentially give every school roughly 15mm to pay athletes with an estimated 70% of that money going toward football. That would not inlcude any NIL monies being paid out. If that is the case, BB is a HOMERUN hire. College football would essentially be a branch of the NFL.

Doesn't make much sense to me. One senior citizen out to be replaced by another one that won't be there long. Not to mention, his Pats teams stunk when Brady left. And he definitely isn't the back slapping people person that Mack is. Doesn't have Mack's recruiting skills.

Man, I can't wait for Bill to roll in with all those Communist Liberals in Chapel Hill and start busting balls. Bill on a recruiting visit, "So a**hole, you committing or not. I don't have time for you or your families middle school drama." This will be awesome, and I am here for it.

This will make it much easier to “recruit”. Go back and watch some of the recent Monday Night Football episodes with Bill and the Manning brothers. Bill is predicting calls/blitzes etc before the play. Mack would be up there crying about something. Comparing apples and charmin toilet paper. Will it work? Who the hell knows, just glad they’re doing something different and at least committing to football. 30M for 3 years is the deal plus reports of 20M in NIL money. Good start.

We'll see. But his Pats teams were awful when Brady jumped to TB. If nothing else, it will create some excitement early in the 2025 season.

We will see. At first I thought it was absurd but the more the vision has been explained to me....maybe? I just can't imagine him in some 17yr Olds apt wooing them. I mean...he has zero charisma and even less juice
However...not really about that anymore. It's salary negotiations and owning the transfer portal.

The ACC is terrible so it wouldn't take much to get to 10+ wins.

It will be entertaining if nothing else. And the girlfriend is smoking, so there is that.

Definitely be a departure from Sally Brown and Wicked Wanda Williams.

Was always going to be awful when Brady and the defensive talent aged out. Good for him for wanting a new challenge and stepping outside to do something different. Could be good, could be ****, but I’m here for it.

Folks keep talking about recruiting and how he will be in households. NIL is the new way. Cash plus the 6 rings on his hands, you don’t think that will woo them? ACC is poop. Sign me up for entertaining.

Doubt that Belichick will be doing much in home recruiting. He won’t need too. Staff will do it for him. Lots of 💰 to spread around.

The teams sucked lol. Tom last game vs Titans, he looked terrible. TB was 10x better roster with no QB, Tom took them over the hump.

He won't need to recruit, he will have a team of coaches doing that. Plus 20+ million a year in NIL, I'll take my money on BB being able to be great. Already hired a huge name in the GM. The big name coaches will be coming to the hill ASAP.

Somehow, someway, you found a way to make it political 🙄.

This is nothing more than an experiment. They’ll pay the wrong guys. A recruit setting across the table listing to my Great Grandfather, who’s walking around with a girlfriend who’s 48 years younger would be to weird for me, and as a parent would be to much. He would have to put together one Hell of a sales job. I would have to pass. They can get the same money somewhere else.

Sign me up for a new experiment rather than continuing the norm and status quo, which has failed over and over again. This investment sets them up to deal with the business side of things, which will look a lot like a pro sports team, which is the new reality in college football. This is the perfect hire and what the program needs for the next few years to get that infrastructure up and running while not taking away from game day prep and player dev on the football side. You think a recruit cares about who the dude is dating or how old he is when they’re being blinded by the rings? Like Tom Cruise said “ SHOW ME THE MONEY”. They want to know how much you gonna pay me and can you get me to the league.

It would be a hard pass for me. If they have an offer from the Heels, they most likely have offers from more established programs, that have the same money or more. I could care less about a guy who got rings with Tom Brady, who failed miserably afterwards. Good for them for trying something new. It would be a NO for me. When the QB who played under you winning all those Championships, laughs at the ideal. That should be an early sign of going elsewhere.
