Bill Connelly says UK worst in SEC

Bulletin board material for Stoops Troops. According to the stat guru's latest projections, UK shakes out at 4.04 total win projections, and 1.70 conference wins. That's worst in the league. I think he has taken last year's numbers and extrapolated them into the future....I think he is wrong and we'll get to 6 wins minimum. But, I recognize our margin for error isn't exactly voluminous and he could be right. What say you?

I don't think we're the worst team in the SEC but our margin for error is very thin. My dream is to sweep SCAR, Mizzou, Georgia, Mississippi state, vandy, and Louisville. That would be amazing.

That's obviously the worst case scenario and highly unlikely barring significant problems such as key injuries.

Lol

I have no idea what Study Hall Is. Is SB Nation the site that gets hits by doing slide show lists?
He's well respected....he pretty much nailed us last year, when his lines predicted our late season collapse. However, I think he's wrong on this year's projection....he does pretty well when a team shows what they've got by analyzing several games into the season. He's less effective, as are most pundits, evaluating teams early in the campaign.

His pre-season projections will get tested right off the bat. His projection is 4-8 overall but 2-6 in SEC play. This means 2-2 in OOC play with the likely losses to UofL and USM.

The pre-season "lean" for UK is toward a 5 or 6 win season, with USM almost assuredly in the win column. Apparently Connolly is calling the upset here. Make no mistake, from a season outcome perspective, the USM game is the most critical opener I can remember. JMO.

Peace

I'm not surprised that some of these prognosticators aren't giving us much respect. Let's face it. We have a lot to prove on the field. Many of us were expecting 6-8 wins last two seasons. Just go back and look how optimistic we were, until the collapse both years when we hit the hard SEC part of the season. I was one of those optimistic ones. Well, I still am, but I feel much more cautious this year. True, on paper it looks like we should be better...more explosive offense, good secondary, and more overall experience and depth at most positions. Hopefully better coaching...but that remains to be seen. I know we'll have some flutters and probably some first game mistakes on Saturday...but it is also our opponents first game of the season. I think we'll know a lot more after the game is over. I remember what a terrible let down I felt when I went and watched WKU chew our D apart, when I fully expected us to win handily. Now I'm not sure what we will see Saturday. If we collapse, I will have real doubts about the season. If we win by 7 or 10, I think it's going to be a very iffy season. If we win somewhat comfortably, and don't make a ton of mistakes, I think it will bode well for the rest of the year...especially if we then go down an give UF a great battle.

I totally agree. So much rides on that first game. Going against Shannon Dawson, must win to keep fan base. Scedule wont be much easier than SM. Fwiw, I think they win against SM. I think we put a lot of points on the board and roll to a victory

This is probably our most important opener since Stoops has been here. The first couple of years, we didn't expect much. I don't think that is any longer true. I believe most of us expect a 6-6 record, and us being able to compete in most games.

I think it's the most important opener FOR Stoops since he's been here. The first couple of years we expected MORE than we got! Most of us expecting 6-6 record is being rather cautious due to the lack of success the past 3 seasons.

I say talk is cheap. When we win more games, this stuff will stop. Not before. I have no doubt that Eddie Gran and Darrin Hinshaw will improve our offense. I am less confident about special teams, and far less confident about our defensive front 7. A lot of our fans are dismissing our defensive shortcomings a little too easily. My view on this season is, I want our team to show us something on the field. I hope they do. Starting this weekend. But I still think 2017 will be Stoops' breakout year.

The real hope, without really seeing the special teams and defense play a real game, is that our offense is as good as we are hearing. Having a secure offense that can move the ball, 1)helps keeps the defense off the field which helps our players in the fourth quarter, 2) it allows the defense to not be in bad field position because of bad decisions and turnovers. Last year and before, our defense was a tale of two halves, that's why the above reasons give us hope that the ST and D can give us more confidence that both will show improvement with less stress on them.

I don't believe the margin of victory against usm will tell us much of anything about the rest of the year. Just win.

Now if we score 50 and shut them out I retract all of that
