I'm sorry if that you have personally experienced loss and made the decision to keep some mementos, but nobody here has probably had to deal with choosing to keep their dad's $1m+ personal collection of sports memorabilia. The best way to preserve something like that is to probably let it go to professional collectors who will take care of it and put effort into preserving Walton's legacy.
But people who hold on to low value items and put them away in a box: that's hoarding and being unable to let go. It's an unfair burden on someone who has to maintain it and eventually decide to sell it, throw it away, or lose it in a disaster (fire, flood, water leak, etc).
