Redshirt top 100 players. Great recipe for getting more to come......
I don't like that argument, as a general statement and it should be reserved for weaker teams/programs ... oh, that's right, we are ...

This. Wasn't a great year for him by any stretch, but he also can't throw the ball to himself. When you get elite recruits, you better get them on the field.

Were Aaron Green and Braylon Heard the greatest RBs of all time? No, but they both got gone because they didn't get any PT. A couple years on, Nebraska's RB depth was in the garbage.

Yeah and great job;
- Dabo Swinney on Tee Higgins (#2 WR)
- Urban Myer on Trevon Grims (#4 WR)
- Jimbo Fisher on DJ Matthews (#5 WR)
- Nick Saban on DeVonta Smith (#6 WR)
- Clay Helton on Joseph Lewis (#7 WR)

If Tyjon's play what has been advertised, we would have three solid receivers along with JD and Stanimal. And Mike Williams should be ready to play, as well as Woodyard if he gets here.

To be fair, he was really very poorly used last year. And Riley’s offense wasn’t really meant to find hybrid slots in space. We’ll get a fuller picture of what Lindsey can and cannot do this year.

This. Lindsey’s speed was quite evident this season, but I think the previous staff didn’t use his full potential. From what I remember he was used primarily on bubble screens and jet sweeps and opposing teams picked up on that very quickly and shut him down. Very rarely was he used on crossing routes or slants. Hit Lindsey on a deep slant and he has the speed to make it 6 from just about anywhere. Excited to see what Frost does with Morgan, Speilman, and Lindsey on the field together.

  1. With Stanley Morgan Jr. returning and looking to build on his 900-plus receiving yards from a season ago, he'll need a sidekick, especially with quarterback Tanner Lee making the puzzling decision to forego his final season and test the NFL waters.
This article sucks...
It wasn't a puzzling decision, it was his only logical option.

Well if he is no better, why do you want him around for a 5th year?
I am not necessarily agreeing that he should have redshirted, but in oldjar's defense, perhaps his point is that Tyjon was an undersized true freshman who needed more time to develop his true potential? Time we could have given him because of our depth at that position?

If I'm not mistaken, Tyjon was on the 2-deep. If Riley could see into the future, knew his team was going to suck and he would get fired and that Tyjon playing would make little difference to this outcome, maybe he saves the kid a year of eligibility.

He was, which is why I am not certain he should have redshirted. But maybe the deeper question is, should he have been on the 2 deep? Honest question since I have no way of judging that. I was not at practices. But he sure didn't get a lot of touches in games so you do have to wonder if burning his shirt was worth it. But on the other side of the argument, you could point out that he does now have quality game experience, and playing true freshman can help in recruiting. So probably a good case can be made for both sides of this debate. Which means it should not be used as a bludgeon for criticizing Riley

Not criticizing Riley. I doubt Riley ever considered RS Tyjon, given the lack of depth at WR. The fact that he was underused was most likely a combination of the fact that he was a frosh and the general ineffectiveness of our offense. And quite possibly he is not as good as advertised. We hope the latter is not true.
At the end of the day, the kid got some seasoning last year and now gets to play in an offense that should take better advantage of his skill set.

Two problems with the they should have redshirted Lindsey argument , he didn’t want to redshirt and he was one of the best 5 WR.

If they had redshirted Lindsey, and the WR struggled to find depth, that would have just added one more thing to ***** about. “Why are they redshirting Tyjon?”

Once things start to head south for a coach, and the handwriting is on the wall, then every little decision he makes gets criticized one way or the other. He goes from being a failing coach to "worst coach ever".

I tend to agree he should not have redshirted for the reasons you state, plus a few more. But regardless of which side one takes on that issue, to me one thing is clear: it is not something Riley should be criticized for.

This was a position of need who legimately cracked the 2 deep
This player came in as a highly rated player with a long blue blood offer list and he had an expectation to contribute early

The player comes from an area with lots of high end skill position players
If he doesn’t play that sends a message to incoming freshmen
Today’s high end 4 star receivers do not expect to redshirt - if they are redshirted especially on as weak a team as Nebraska had last year- means you probably lose him

Good decision on not redshirting
Bad use of the talent

How he was utilized was too predictable and he needs to learn to get upfield quicker
This isn’t high school ball anymore

Players are going to struggle the first year on the field regardless of whether they redshirted or not. Perhaps it's fair to criticize the offensive play calling, but I think his lack of production in 2017 is mostly on him. He's in a much better position now to break out in 2018 and I think he's got a great chance of doing that.

His point doesn't make sense unless the kid actually wants to redshirt. Top 100 players don't go to college to redshirt. You do this a couple times and you won't sniff another.

So are you saying that all Adrian Martinez has to do is say that he doesn't want to redshirt next year, and that will get him on the field?
