Honest question, has something changed with the rule set of college football that has made it more difficult for teams to block punts? I ask because it used to be a calling card of our team back during Greg’s first stint, but now it seems a rarity unless the punter can’t handle the ball cleanly. Just curious.

I think with the move to protect the QB, the trend carries over to punters in terms of personal foul calls for late hits through the years. If you go aggressive, there’s definitely more of a risk of giving the opponent a fresh set of downs with a flag getting thrown for unnecessary roughness or late hit.

Dammit. They mentioned on the radio broadcast that it was harder now. I didn't catch why though.

I think it was something about how punters move around now - the MSU punter moved and kicked across his body once.

Anyone else hear on the radio when they talked about it?

Protections, schemes, and punting styles have changed drastically.
