Explain this to me. Rivals includes Isaac Gifford as one of 20 recruits on their list if Nebraska recruits for 2020. He will not get a scholarship until fall, but plans on enrolling early meaning he will pay for spring semester. Technically he will enroll as a walk on. Why count him in the recruiting class?

Probably just easier and less complicated for Rivals I’m guessing.

I think he counts in the 2020 class, but they are out of room under the 85 man limit for spring semester. Once the seniors graduate or go off of scholarship, they can give him one. Historically, the 25/yr rule has been the limiting factor (grayshirts), but with more and more guys enrolling early, the 85 limit comes into play for spring semester.

He is not a recruited athlete so he doesn’t count toward the 25. He isn’t on scholarship so he doesnt count against 85. Since he will already be enrolled, I don’t believe he counts toward the 25 in 2021 either, just the 85. Since he is a walk on, you can’t assume he will be put on scholarship until he is actually on scholarship.
