Well, we looked good on the first drive, now we are getting Mossed.
The weird thing is, when Miller is decisive he can be excellent. But so often he holds the ball too long and get sacked, or tries to make a play that’s not there and ends up with a TO or just a horrible play. I wish him the best of luck, but he never played so well FOR us as he played AGAINST us.Moss is just awful. Can you imagine what we could do with a competent dual threat QB?
A lot of “ifs”. If he doesn’t throw an inexplicable pick 6 against Virginia, we win that one.Anyone who wants to give Moss crap for being a bad quarterback, go rewatch his 28 yard pass completion to Caullin Lacy on 3rd and 6 at about the 7 minute mark of the 3rd quarter. If he doesn’t stand in there under tremendous pressure and make that great throw, then we don’t score a TD on that drive to go ahead 14-3.
Certainly, he’s not as talented as Tyler Shough, but he was a pretty good quarterback for us. If our OL had been more consistent, had our top 3 RB’s not been injured so often, and had a third and 4th option at wide receiver stepped up earlier in the season, we’d have been playing in the ACC championship game this year.
We also gave up a fumble return for a TD in that game. If our receivers block better on the edge on that play, then maybe Isaac Brown catches that pitch cleanly.A lot of “ifs”. If he doesn’t throw an inexplicable pick 6 against Virginia, we win that one.
Not saying it’s all on Miller. At times, he was superb. But most of the time, it was like watching Marty Lowe. Serviceable, no more. His maddening unwillingness to throw the ball away to avoid a sack was what I found most frustrating with Moss. I hope he gets a shot at the NFL, but he will not be drafted and he isn’t mobile enough or steady enough to make a practice squad, but I hope he signs a UFA deal, gets an invite to a camp, and proves me wrong. We also gave up a fumble return for a TD in that game. Look, I get it that the QB gets (and in many cases deserves) a lot of the blame when an offense underperforms. My point was that there were a lot more problems with this year’s offense than just the QB.
