"Speaker Boehner believes that the first job of any Speaker is to protect this institution and, as we saw yesterday with the Holy Father, it is the one thing that unites and inspires us all.

The Speaker's plan was to serve only through the end of last year. Leader Cantor's loss in his primary changed that calculation.

The Speaker believes putting members through prolonged leadership turmoil would do irreparable damage to the institution.

He is proud of what this majority has accomplished, and his Speakership, but for the good of the Republican Conference and the institution, he will resign the Speakership and his seat in Congress, effective October 30."

I think he's had enough of the ********.

Maybe he wants to devote all his time to running for the GOP POTUS nomination.

Okay, he's quitting the Speakership, but why is he resigning from Congress? Unless there is some personal reason for that I find it kinda insulting to the voters because now they'll appoint someone else to finish his term and then that person will probably run in 2016 and will have incumbency advantage. If he doesn't want to be in Congress he should just let his seat be vacant and let the voters determine the next occupant of it next year without anyone having an advantage.

Just another example how unreasonable the GOP has become. The individuals can not work with any leader. Period.

Aren't you one of the libs who was telling us that '12 was their Waterloo? "Repus will never be heard from again", they said. Here and now, they have the majority in both houses of congress.
