I think he has a real chance if some things fall in place, and they have a chance to. Yeah yeah, recruiting ratings don't mean much (right), but when you have incredible differences then maybe they do. In 07 we had a 5.5 QB that couldn't throw the ball ten yards (don't take my word for it, ask a lot of our experts posting on here at the time), we had one 5.6 RB with a 5.4 (and a 5.2, freshman, Locke) as backups, we had three WRs that averaged LESS than 5.3 (Lyons a 4.9), a late 5.5 TE, and an OL with starters that averaged about a 5.2.
This year at QB we will have not just a four star, but a 5.9 four star, at RB we have Boom, again not just a four star but a 5.9 four star----- PLUS another four star and a proven 5.7, not to mention a soph that might turn out almost as good as Boom (my opinion), we could start three WRs that average more than a 5.8 with BETTER more experienced players that will put some of them on the bench, a four star TE with a years experience (with two good backups), and the BIG difference on the OL (critical to Boom) which will have a fifth year Remington candidate at center with three other starters returning and newcomers that are rated at 5.8, 5.9, and 6.1.
What a difference, and especially on the critical OL, if these players start coming close to their ratings (most with a lot more experience) Boom will have a lot of support and the defense can't ever concentrate on him, it should really open things up for him.
But he might not get the ball enough, last years Heisman winner had over 40 carries in each of their last two crucial games, Boom probably won't get half that many with our other weapons including some other very good RBs. Bama's player with the second most carries last year wasn't a RB, it was the QB-----bad news for someone playing behind another 240# five star freak at RB.
And didn't that 07 offense have a pretty good year, especially before injuries caught up with their lack of depth?
What's with this 5.7 ,5.8 ,5.9 stuff. I'll take the opinion of a coach who can develop a kid and fit him into his system over a kid that some yahoo behind a desk ranks as 5.8 instead of 5.4 every time.I think he has a real chance if some things fall in place, and they have a chance to.
