Cornerback Dicaprio Bootle had one pass breakup, giving him 14 this season and moving him into a tie for fourth place on the season PBU list (15 is tie for 2nd). He is three breakups from DeJuan Groce’s school record 17 pass breakups in 2000.
He needs to quit adding up breakups and start picking passes off but none the less it's a good stat.

Bootle has done well in coverage this year minus a few plays which happens to every CB, but he really needs to work on his tackling. Did you all see the play where he just bounced off a BCU RB showing minimal effort/physicality before someone (maybe Barry?) came in and cleaned it up. There’s been improvement overall, but still far too many guys on defense aren’t making tackles that are theirs to make.

Did you see him against Michigan? He could have single handedly stopped that blowout but the poor angles he took all day allowed their running backs to pick up huge chunks of yardage. He's been pretty good in pass coverage. He still needs a lot of work in run support.

No team should be depending on a CB to shut down the run game. At most, CBs are there for containment.

Bootle has met expectations so far. I predicted he'd
to be all conference before the season started. He has tools (speed and agility) needed. If he can get comfortable enough to turn his head and go for the catch more often, he could be one of the best DBs in the nation.

I disagree. He doesn't need to shut down the run game, but CBs need to help in the run game and he didn't do that against Michigan. He lost contain and let them get to the outside several times against Michigan.

He's considered the top cover corner in the BIG and ranked number 2 nationally in PBU's He did an outstanding job of covering Rondale. Rondale only had 85 yards receiving in that game which is a season low and it was Bootle that was on him. We outgained every team we've played this year with the exception of Michigan in total yardage and still lost. Mistakes and penalties! That show's our D while not stellar has actually been better than everyone has been giving it credit for. We should very well be 7-1 or 6-2 right now.

Just to clarify- most/all of the defense had assignment/execution issues against Michigan. It was awful.
Bootle’s not alone in needing to improve angles/tackling. And he’s still relatively young.

That I know, that was then and this team is now not the same one that played them several weeks ago. Bootle even though he needs to work lane's better has rarely been burned this year, and yes he is young.

While i agree with most of what you said i live in reality... you of all people should know that the FACT is we are not 7-1 or 6-2... shoulda woulda coulda dribble isnt helping our defense get stops... our defense is absolutely one of the weakest parts of our team right now.. I just am glad we have an offense that is starting to click especially with the number of young players we have.. gives us a shot against almost anyone

No we are not, 7-1 or 6-2 but in reality as well it was mental mistakes and penalties that are the reason we are at the record we are at and very well could've been at those records without them and that is a fact. The game's against Colorado, Troy, Purdue, and Northwestern were ours to lose and that is a fact, but we lost them. We play now, we beat all 4 including Purdue. We had to learn before we could get better. It's good we lost all 6 games as we wouldn't be where we are at now as there would've been no change in the culture as that culture was one of laying down and quitting in the face of adversity instead of swinging until the bitter end.
