He definitely improved a lot in his time here. And I think he has helped to start bring back some much needed attitude on the defensive side of the ball.

As much as it would be nice getting some of these guys back, I am excited to see some opportunities open up for our younger guys. Time for them to step up.

So who do you guys think with be returning? My guess would be one of the safeties. Not sure we see many return honestly.

From what I’ve been hearing (Husker writers) it’s looking like:

Stille
Honas
Williams or Dismuke (one of the two)
Culp
Falck

And honestly I’d be very happy with just these guys.

It would be nice to get a safety back, but I’m not sure we will. I think there is a decent shot Culp, Falck, Stille and JoJo come back.

FWIW, I'm pretty sure Benard Thomas had as many interceptions in his career as Bootle. If not, he wasn't more than one behind.

I believe Pat Ricketts had more in one game in the Alamo than DiCaprio had his entire career.

Damn, was hoping he would come back
understandable. However, with seems like many entering the Portal and/or deciding to tryout,
could this mean that the program hasn't motivated them to want to stay ? We certainly hope not,
but beginning to have my doubts.....GBR.!

Are we even going to be able to field a f***ing team next year?
Did you expect him back? He has been here 5 years. Not many of these guys are coming back anywhere, some programs aren’t even letting them come back. They are Sr’s and we have a new class of Freshmen coming in, that is how it works in any other year.

I'm just bitching about the attrition. Not knocking the coaching staff, per se.

The attrition has been rough. But I’m not sure I think of the Seniors that leave as attrition.
I agree. It's just frustrating as a fan.

I understand that the tenure of football players is probably the shortest of all sports other than, perhaps, snake charmers.

I harbor no ill-will towards any player who is eligible for the draft going for it.

I wish Bootle the best. He was just an important piece of our defense. So, I'm a bit butthurt about it right now.

I know I'm excited to use the youth excuse for the 6th year in a row.

My father was a Senior Manager for a large corporation. If one of the employees under him got transferred to a better position he would tell them how genuinely happy he was for them, thank them for their hard work and tell them to go home and get prepared for their new position as it normally meant an out-of-state move. If he heard that someone was seriously thinking about leaving the company for any reason he would take them out to lunch and find out what was up. If they expressed for any reason a desire to leave he would offer to pay them through the month or two, thank them for their service, wish them luck and send them on there way. I know for a fact some of these people were extremely happy and even giddy to leave this way. He told me his reason for these quick departures was because no matter why an employee was leaving they were already mentally thinking about their next job or assignment. He felt it was best for the organization to get them moving on sooner rather than later. My father was never afraid of the challenge of having new employees. I think he was pretty wise and I miss him everyday. I think the same goes for these players. If they don‘t have a 100 % commitment to the team than the team is better off without them.

Bootle was an okay corner....he had the most TD passes given up 10 fold over anyone else. He is not a loss imo

The question is: Do we have somebody better ready to step in and start?

That's where the real attrition shows its hand. The DB room has signed some of the best prospects in the last 3 years and then turned right back around and lost them. Hopefully Farmer can heal up and do his thing again with the opportunity.

the attrition is no different than anywhere else. maybe even less since the season ended. why would anyone think ANY player would stay 6 years? if even a single senior returns thats better than average. there are PLENTY of players on the roster. sometimes you just have to play the guys you recruited to play.

Yep, he's a must stay.
I don't know if there's much in it for him to gain by staying unless he wants a post graduate degree. He's put as much on video as he probably can and likely would get signed as an UDFA at least. I would love to have him back but I won't hold my breath.

Yeah unless he starts turning and getting the pick next year he's about shown what he has. Mills I think could really put some more sizzle on his name if he came back and had a nice year. Bootle I think has risen about as high as he's going to.

Mills is getting too old to wait. I think he's 26. JoJo IMO is a better prospect than Nate Gerry. I didn't think Gerry would stick so what do I know.

Yeah I don't blame him for just not wanting to be in college any more. He just turned 24 btw.

I just think there's no way he gets drafted given that Ozigbo didn't after a breakout year. Mills was forgotten by his own playcaller, he'll have an uphill battle to stick on a roster as a UDFA.
