Bottom line Pope has to do something about the defense

I dunno. We lost by 5 against one of the best offenses in the country. I’m supposed to be all upset? I wanted to win but all we really had to do was make two more shots or get called for two fewer ******** fouls, which is apparently never happening. The refs have spoken.

So what is Your answer? We are what we are this year.
I don't have an answer because I'm not the Coach @ UK making millions, that's his job lol. Our rebounding and defense is piss poor though.

What an absolute joke our defense is, we can't ****ing guard ANYONE. How is the defense still THIS bad over half way into the season?
What do you suggest? Zone against Alabama the way they shoot it? Maybe. They hit a lot of open looks from driving it and kicking to open shooters. And they have several guys who can make 3’s. They were just better today.

If you have the athletes to consistently score over 90 pts, then they have the ability to at least play a little better defensively.

Very underwhelmed with Pope's ability to get this team to play any defense. How many times do we have to watch out guys go under screens and give up wide open threes? That has absolutely nothing to do with athleticism, at all.

No reason UK shouldn't be better. Cal had no excuses last yr, Pope has none this year. Very alarming, to be honest.

This game was lots by poor shot selection, rebounding, and stupid turnovers.

This ^^^^

Every time we had it to two somebody tried to be a hero and took a bad shot within the first 5 seconds of the shot clock. If we just run our regular offense the entire game we win. Gave away about 10 possessions on bad shots or unforced TO's.

We're going to get housed a few times in the SEC and there is no second weekend with that defense. Alabama got whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted it.

That was a really bad defensive effort.

Defending on picks was atrocious today, all they want is to drive and kick out or lob to the rim. Gotta be better about trapping or something out front but Carr’s inability to guard Nelson or give us anything is what lost this game. I know he’s hurt but can’t make an AA out of guy that was terrible his previous 3 games.

FT discrepancy was the main edge Bama had -- and we tend to give up a lot of FTs and a high 2 pt percentage in general. Somehow we need to get better at challenging 2 point shots without fouling. Even a marginal improvement would probably help us greatly with the offense we already have. And of course off rebs we give up directly contribute to the high 2 pt percentage and fouls as well.

Defense isn’t that bad. Some are too simplistic thinking points allowed determines how good/bad your defense is. Sure they are related some, but so is pace of play. More possessions = more points. Also they are the #1 scoring team in the country, with many teams wanting to slow the pace, but we don’t.

They made 45%, 38% from 3. Nothing great, but not horrible.

The guy out together what he could in a short time and this year has been great from it could have been and these people cry like he's been here 5 years
Exactly. Who can first to rush and post some negative bs after a pretty decent overall effort.

Yep.

We had 2 less turnovers than Bama.

They had 2 more offensive rebounds.

Extra possessions washed there.

We shot slightly better from the field. All of Bama's advantage came from taking 14 more free throws than us.

We weren't good in any defensive facet. We win today if we were good in any single 1 of the 4 factors.

I would settle for coming up with 2-3 more loose balls a game. Feel like we lose 75% of those situations for some reason. Is it hustle? Poor positioning? The 3 bigs plus Almonor and Brea rarely seem to come up with them.
Athleticism discrepancy. They were quicker to the ball and outjumped our guys.

Our poor defensive rebounding is making our pedestrian defense look worse with all those extra possessions.

Williams is just pathetic on the glass. I really hoped after his recent strong second half, he found his motor. Wrong.
Bama ended up with a Oreb% of 37.5. It's about their average.

They had about a 54 eFG%. That's right on their average.

They had a TO% of about 12. That's better than their average of 17.

They had a FTR of 50.7. That's well above their average of 42.

We lost because Alabama was average or better in every single 4 factor. Only losing by 5 is a testament to our offensive firepower.
