Posted this on the recruiting thread. It looks like he may have gotten a commitment this morning (Tovani Mizell). He posted this, then posted it again with 2 piece. Looks like two commitments coming
Chance Poore had a chance and did good until that miss that probably would have beaten UF. After that he kept missing and he is now getting another chance. Jackson Smith obviosly has not panned out so farSo, from now on when we get the so called "best kicker in the country" out of HS, I'll take a wait and see approach. Chance Poore is just NOW reliable enough to be given his shot at it and he was top ranked. Then, Jackson Smith was supposed to be the "best" in his class and he is NEVER mentioned as even competing for the starting job.

Ageee here. To not win the job kicking at Ky the last few years is bad….love the Italian meatball…but he was awful last year. Punting has been “meh” as wellSo, from now on when we get the so called "best kicker in the country" out of HS, I'll take a wait and see approach. Didn't UK have a QB who transferred TO Montana under Phillips? Maybe from Chattanooga or some such?Probably less risk these days with using a scholly on a K these days given the transfer portal allows relatively easy replacements.
Who was our last Montana recruit?
Clevan Thomas transferred to Montana St. I believe.Didn't UK have a QB who transferred TO Montana under Phillips? Maybe from Chattanooga or some such?
Maybe so. Trying to recall, the player I was thinking of was a QB under Joker Phillips....maybe Ryan Phillips??Clevan Thomas transferred to Montana St. I believe.
Oh now that I don't remember.Maybe so. Trying to recall, the player I was thinking of was a QB under Joker Phillips....maybe Ryan Phillips??
I do get jr was a multiple of issues….but Ruffalo missed a good bit with complete fine snaps…he was a mess last yearYou try kicking field goals when the snap is so bad the holder cannot get it down.
Yep and I think it was all in his long stride to the ball. Just harder to time and harder to balance when taking that long stride. Not to mention taking longer to get there. It is like swinging a 9 iron vs a 4 iron. One with shorter stance with up and down swing and other with wider stance with flatter swing because club is longer (unless your B Chambeau).XP kicks were consistently too low, imo. Every so often, he'd hit it pure but, more times than not, he'd hit a 4-iron instead of a 9-iron.
And some of his FG attempts looked like a pull/hook with literally no chance of being good from the millisecond it left his foot. Some of that was indeed the snapping problem. I have to believe some was had the yips.
We have to improve this facet this year to have what could be another 10 win season.
Unless Smith is slated to move to punter or kickoff specialist. We have a pretty long history of having different guys handle kickoffs vs FG. From what I understand Smith has had some trouble transitioning to kicking FG off the ground vs off the tee allowed in HS.Chance Poore had a chance and did good until that miss that probably would have beaten UF. Which is not an uncommon problem. It isn't an easy transition for some kickers. From what I understand Smith has had some trouble transitioning to kicking FG off the ground vs off the tee allowed in HS.
Only one I can remember was MTCatFan who ran the Stupid Underdog Picks Contest first.Probably less risk these days with using a scholly on a K these days given the transfer portal allows relatively easy replacements.

Snaps were awful last year, but I couldn't NOT post this. You try kicking field goals when the snap is so bad the holder cannot get it down.
My 4 iron and 9 iron look similar.XP kicks were consistently too low, imo. Every so often, he'd hit it pure but, more times than not, he'd hit a 4-iron instead of a 9-iron.

I'd be shocked if he kicked in front of 3000 in MT. LOL.Big difference in kicking in front of 3k and 65k+ it seems
You mean the shots look similar? My 4 iron and 9 iron look similar.
