2015 Bourbon release season is a couple months out so figured it would be good to get a thread started. What bourbons are you most hopeful to get?

Also, I have an unopened bottle with the wood case of Angels Envy Cask Strength 2014. I was wondering if anyone was interested in a full bottle swap for William Larue Weller BTAC? If so, shoot me a message.

Thanks for posting! I've seen that list before, but always good to have. Really looking forward to the IW Harper 15yo, but it has not hit selves in Louisville yet. The NAS Harper sucked.

I just got a bottle of iw Harper 80 proof for my birthday and it is just ok. $35 is too much for that bourbon .. I would like to try the 86 proof but I will not pay the price. Bourbon prices are going through the roof . Most are not worth it.
If someone trades you the Weller from the Antique Collection for Any Angels Envy, they are morons. Angels Envy is swill. If someone willed me a case of it I would contest the will. Also got a bottle of Old Rip Van Winkle 10 yr old for my birthday.. Haven't had it in about 6 yrs and gave really enjoyed it. Glad to see you started the thread .. A little change of pace is always good around here.

What's a good inexpensive starter bourbon for a n00b? Need to switch up this palate from citrusy kind of stuff that I usually run with.

Buffalo Trace is my recommendation. For around 23 bucks or so for a fifth you can't beat it.

Evan Williams Single Barrel is my favorite. It can be had for $23 at Costco so it's not expensive at all. No excuse for drinking crappy bourbon.

The Downtown Louisville Evan Williams Experience still had the WHH last week. They didn't have it out on the shelf, you had to ask for it (which also ****es me off). They're probably sold out by now, but that ridiculous price tag will keep it from moving too quickly a la that Evan Williams 23 year that's been in the gift shop over a year.

The "Secondary market" for bourbon has completely jumped the shark in the past year. Bourbon is becoming the beanie babies of the 2010s.

Agree Bill. That bubble has to burst at some point. Secondary pricing is getting out of hand lately and I expect to see buyers get fed up paying the high prices. Or, the supply will out number the demand with all the new distillerys going up.

Speaking of the secondary market. Would not have believed it if I didn't see it. Watched a friend get $1400 for the following list:
1 - Pappy Van Winkle 15yr 2013
1- Birthday Bourbon 2012
1 - Elijah Craig BP
1 - Colonel EH Tornado
1 - Old Rip 10yr 107
1 - Stagg (regular) 2013

With the exception of the Tornado, I have duplicates of everything on the list, but purchased to drink not to sell. I will say that for a split second I was tempted, but have no reason to sell and will enjoy the bourbons somewhere down the line.

Bourbon is a consumable good. There is very little objective value in a bottle of bourbon that isn't to be consumed. It's not a piece of artwork. And a consumable item has a relative value ceiling to all but collectors. Hence, as a collectible item, bottles of bourbon aren't destined to be a long-term appreciating investment. It's a short-term mania, not a long term asset. those hoarding bottles for some unspecified future date are going to get bitten in the long run.

There was a bottle of 2014 Pappy 20 that I saw on a facebook group today listed for over $800. Seriously. 2014 wasn't even a particularly great year, by most accounts (including mine) for the pappy lineup. In fact, I'd say the recent Buffalo Trace era bottlings are all pretty good, but not comparable to the older Stitzel-Weller era bottlings that started the Pappy craze anyway. It's different juice now, but no one buying it seems to know the difference or care. That's a bubble if there ever was one.

Don't get me wrong...I fully support loving bourbon and swapping for bottles that are hard to find. But the secondary market is laughable right now. It's beyond ridiculous, and the people paying ridiculous amounts are really the ones primarily to blame.

For swapping, I generally find swapping samples better than full bottles, but both make sense.
