The Evan Williams Single Barrel is hard to beat - it is a 12 year old and is priced at around $25. I would definitely give it a go.

sugar cube, muddled with half an orange slice and a cherry, a dash of bitters, and just a touch of club soda.

Add 3 ounces WT Rye, stir, and fill tumbler with ice.

Enjoy the goodness.

Not sure when it happened. I've been drinking them for 20 plus years, hell I used to have a hard time at bars, getting a decent one, because well, they just didn't know how to do it. Now, they're everywhere...

Younger, so I've only been drinking Old Fashioneds for a few years. Mixology is popular now, especially with a trend back to old style drinking. Speakeasy styled bars are becoming popular for their "exclusivity", and people just don't want to drink garbage. If I'm going to spend $10+ for a drink, it better be more than just Raspberry Smirnoff and Sprite.

Still hard to have a proper one made, especially if you are in a smaller city, but I'm excited turn-of-the-century style imbibing is now popular. Bars just did it better back then.

OF's are my favorite "mixed drink", with Cuba Libre's and Manhattans close behind. Had a Sazerac the other day with actual Absinth, and it was quite amazing. The right hands making a drink, make all the difference.

Bulleit is my go-to.

Love four roses small batch and single barrel. In Milwaukee people clearly don't know their bourbons because Makers Mark is ridiculously expensive, I assume because it's the only one people have heard of. Four roses single barrel was on sale for 19 bucks a fifth a few weeks ago, bought a whole case. Woodford is routinely on sale for 26 or 27 bucks. Really like Eagle Rare as well, especially for the price.

Knob Creek, Woodford, and Old Forester currently on the counter.

Love all three; Old Forester is sneaky good.

ganner with the Johnny Drum!!!!!!!!!! I thought I was alone in my appreciation for that "grassy" bourbon.

Seriously guys, do yourself a favor and try the Noah's Mill.

Any Rye suggestions? I like the Sazerac, but the Bulleit Rye ......I couldn't finish the bottle.

I bought a bottle of Old Forrester after you shared yours the last time we played golf. The first half of the bottle I tried to drink neat. Next I tried with water or on the rocks. By the end I was having to mix with diet.
Maybe I'm just a puss when it comes to bourbon.

I don't have a "collection", but I try to keep about three cheapish to mid-range bottles on hand.

Right now:

- Maker's

- Jefferson's

- Wild Turkey 101

I had my first Pappy (15) the other weekend. I get why people go ape over it, but I have to say I would not go to extraordinary lengths to get it. Just couldn't tell that much of a difference (quality, not taste wise) between it and other top shelf bourbons.

Picked up a bottle of Henry McKenna 10yr single barrel, Liquor Barn selections. It was outstanding neat and with an ice sphere. Under $30. GREAT bottle. Produced by Heaven Hill(Evan W, Elijah Craig, etc).

Worth a try.

Also recently tried the Woodford Master Dist malt whiskeys. Pretty good if you enjoy other whiskeys thanBourbon. One is barley malt in a used barrel, the other is barley malt in an unused bourbon barrel.

While I'm on non-bourbon American whiskey, LB has Dickel 9yr and 14yr single barrel bottles. Both are pretty good. Dickel is considerably better liquid than JD. At those ages, really resemble bourbon and haven't had everything stripped out by over filtering with charcoal like the JD brands.

Wife surprised me at Christmas with a bottle of the 10 year old Pappy. Rip...or whatever they call it. Have significantly cut down on the drinking lately but have really enjoyed sipping it over the past few nights.

Pappy 15 yr.

Great but not worth the money.

Makers is still the "go to" drink of choice.

Going here in a bit to buy a bottle of Noah's Mill.

ghorn turned me onto it 4-5 years ago and I'm forever thankful.

At @ $50-$55 bucks it's a tad on the high side, for me anyway, but damn it's terrific bourbon.

Ha! I use that box for recycling purposes. I don't think I've drank Jack Daniels since I toured their distillery during the Wall/Cousins SECT a few years ago. Only worth mixing with cola.

Good call. My bottle is cloudy and pretty void of flavor.

Just had some George T. Stagg. Fantastic.

What is a nicer version of Jim Beam 7 year old? Or another way of asking, if I like the taste of Jim Beam, what is something up in the next tier as far as price that I might enjoy the taste?

That's actaully called the "Pot Still Reserve." (It's shaped like a pot still)

It's a great bourbon.

I'm loving Noah's Mill right now.

This and the Evan Williams 10 yr single barrel for the money are awesome. Would recommend both. The Elmer T Lee maybe a little harder to find though.
