Reporter asked in the presser today: "You hear the phrase 'aiming the ball.' Do you think Lanorris is doing that, and is it a concern?"

Beamer very tersely replied "No" and then quickly looked to another reporter deliberately ignoring the one who asked the question.

He just won't even give a thoughtful response to questions about the QB position. Does Sellers' NIL deal specify that the coach can't critique his play? The most harsh thing Beamer will say about Sellers is "He has to throw that ball better" and "There are some throws Lanorris would like back."

What good is a presser when the coach can't/won't discuss the biggest question mark on the team?

That seems to be his m.o., though, now that I think about it. Last year, he went out of his way not to criticize the OL, even though they were one of the worst in the nation.

contrast this to Spurrier. Spurrier would be letting anyone else be out there playin and then say something sarcastic in the presser.
Beamer too reliant on emotions. prohibits him from fully seeing in the mirror.

"Gosh, yeah, he just kind of lobbed the ball over there. Made it real easy on the DB. Can't throw the ball like at this level. So we decided Cutter deserved a shot. I don't know. Maybe none of our QBs can throw the ball this year."

I'm not saying Sellers doesn't put the work in, I know that he does.

But Spurrier would pull a QB or say something about giving someone else a shot because to highly competitive people, the idea of losing your place inspires that little extra bit of effort and focus. That is something he was a Master at.

I don't think Beamer has the Emotional Intelligence to see that.

You left off the ending.... </toothsuck> ;)

Boy do I hate the way he left us, and I still harbor some resentment there, but dangit if he wasn't something else!

I heard that question and I agree- he was very dismissive. The reporter was David Cloninger of The Post and Courier (former of The State)

I think that might be a sign that Shane is trying to protect him a bit because he knows he's made some big mistakes.

It was a good question too because on Sportstalk like night, they had former Michigan State and South Carolina football GA (and former Newberry head coach) Zak Willis on to give some football insight. Coach Willis said Sellers appeared to him to be "trying to aim the ball instead of just throwing it and that's not what you want him doing"

and Coach Willis is very careful with his assessments- generally very positive toward players.

It's how he's always been as we have seen him. He's petty and overly emotional, he's basically a woman in regards to all that. He doesn't have it between the ears to be an HC. I'm a broken record saying this: no one was coming to make him an HC, just SC. No one was coming to steal him away from us but Tanner and the BoT decided he should be paid as if that was the case. It was never going to work with him as a coach and there's a chance he will still be here with that awful buyout. .

Spurrier sure wasn't an "attaboy"" pat 'em on the helmet type when a QB threw a pick.
Tommy Beecher never returned to being the starter after his 4 pics in his first half of the first game which we still blew out NC State

Shane won't allow any negative questions at his pressers. Don't these reporters know how to follow the rules lol. Always defensive and testy if you don't follow Shane's "all is fine here, we know exactly what we're doing" narrative. Of course, he's always going to defend players too because he's a hype guy.

Since Saturday night's presser you can tell Shane's been trying to set up this "the press is really against us and just loves to say bad things about us" stance. Look for more of it if this losing steak continues.

I’m waiting for Tyler From Columbia to weigh in with the question:

Coach, you’re making $8 million annually and we’re heading down the same path as last year’s 4-8 record. What changes on the field are you going to make to ensure you keep your job?”

Ask OU if they want him back as TE coach. They probably don't. Nobody wants him as a HC-much less paying him $8M a year. That's why this is his "dream job". Because only Carolina would pay a former position coach with a famous last name that kind of money.

The other part of that question would be, "... or have you already informed Mrs. Beamer that she needs to start adjusting her spending habits?"

Tyler lives in Spartanburg but rumor is he has a cousin named Cooter in Pelion who has access to a phone.

Might make for an interesting verbal sparring session at Backstreets.

I suppose it's possible that Sellers has a fragile psyche and wouldn't be able to stand up to public criticism so Beamer feels he has to be defensive of him to keep him in one piece mentally.

Hated that for him, he was a good egg. Graduated from USC with a degree in actuarial mathematics (obviously not a major for the 5 out of 4 people who find math difficult) and then transferred to Liberty for the 2009 season where he threw for 1,700 yards and 9 touchdowns, completing about 68% of his passes while helping the Flames to a share of the Big South Conference Championship title.
A fine human being. Apparently, he's still just up the road from USC. Hope he's doing well.

Who cares what Beamer says? Here is who Beamer is:

2024 LSU — 17-point lead blown
2025 Texas A&M — 27-point lead blown
2026 Mississippi State — 16-point lead blown

I saw that, maybe his OC already approached him with this and he got testy with him???

This may be a legitimate question, but Beamer does not need to answer that publicly. If Sellers is going to play, his coach needs to at least show a face that he is fully in his corner. Once he starts answering questions like that, he may as well put Woods behind center.

That is certainly an opinion. Not all coaches subscribe to that though. As mentioned above, Spurier had no issue with it.

Yes, Spurrier would have answered it, but he probably would have benched Sellers too. Spurrier was guilty of holding on with a QB too long as well though. He left Garcia out there to throw 5 picks against Auburn and that loss kept us out of the SEC Championship Game.

Yes. Spurrier was obviously less than perfect. That does not mean everything he did was wrong.

Real head coaches know how to give a non answer that doesn't throw the QB under the bus while not looking like a pissy thin skinned woman.
