I usually wake up excited for game days. Not today. Oh well.
That’s about where I’m at. I used to look forward to games even if I was nervous. Now it’s like why bother? The players don’t care why should I. Sucks.

I’m still gonna root for us to win every game but I’m def not as pumped or excited. Just has really put a damper on it.

I’ll keep watching and wanting. I’ll keep wearing UK stuff.

I won’t be traveling to games and spending additional money on them.

This is a reasonable stance.

I am doing something similar.

My parents are season ticket holders who live close to Lexington. They’re getting close to 80 and are starting to slow down a little. They offered me tickets to all the games but senior night if I want to use them.

I live 3 hours from them. I’d planned to come up with a buddy for a couple SEC games. I had to tell mom and dad I likely won’t be coming because this team and the effort they’ve been putting forth is not worth a 6-hour round trip drive + parking + gas + food and drinks. I can watch us lose at my house for free.

Yeah, that would really help if only 500 people showed up at Rupp for IU.

I don't think OP is the same Il_wildcat that used to be a Mod. He's a troll.

I’m starting to wonder unless IL Wildcat has had a rough go of things and his demeanor completely changed.

This is the same person who was always optimistic during late era Cal, endured 9-16 without this level of meltdown, and who was over the moon with Pope last year, but now has quit on the season, wants the coach fired and is going to let a … checks notes … college basketball team … ruin his Christmas as a grown adult man?

Doesn’t seem like the same dude, BUT we don’t know what posters are going through personally. Antennas definitely raised at the possibility of a troll spoofing the account name of a formerly well respected long-time poster who wrote excellent scouting reports ahead of games.

Don’t let any small group tell you you’re wrong. The little Calipari brigade always does this. Doesn’t matter who, they’re coach over program. If they had their way we’d go under and as long as you support whoever has woo’d them and brain screwed them with charisma they don’t care. You’re putting the program ahead of that and there’s nothing wrong with that.

That's a good question. I'd say if this group was all together in person, folks would not be near as rude or froggy.
I’m nothing like I am on the board in person. This is about Kentucky basketball, I don’t take any sht when it comes to it. It took 100 years to build this and a lot of men put their lives into it. I’m not going to sit here and take it lightly.

Moot point isn't it. You can say pretty much anything about anyone on internet and you guys have been doing just that about our players for weeks. Dont like it when anyone gives it back to you?

Now is the time for action and not mere words or threats. CMP has the leverage as the head coach and needs to make the painful decisions to cull the rotten apples.

His job, this season, and the near future of the program are in jeopardy. I think this parallels the late 80’s when the program was put on probation, doom and gloom was everywhere and there was talk that the program would never recover. Many players left, Pitino came on board and stated in effect - we are going to win and win now. The program rose from the ashes quickly and UK was soon among the elite again. But that was a painful period of time with all the uncertainty.

There is as much uncertainty in the air now as it was during that probation time:
  1. Can we attract recruits and transfers to come to UK with the mess that we are seeing and the media is exposing with great delight.
  2. We need, as Pope has expressed numerous times, to retain and re-recruit our players that still retain eligibility for next year
  3. What is the potential fallout if nothing is done and we have a terrible year? Fan apathy, Money for future rosters drying up, negative recruiting by other programs

I like Coach Pope as I think he is a tremendous person with the best intentions. But it will become his downfall if he continues to look thru rose colored glasses and only see the good in all his players. I know he loves this program as much as anyone else but a lack of action, I am afraid, will tank this season and, more importantly, next season and seasons beyond. Coach Stoops was able to get by with the occasional good season followed by average and mediocre seasons. The basketball program does not operate in the same manner. The “bad seasons” are not winning the SEC regular season and/or the SEC tournament along with an Elite Eight or Final Four appearance. There is little time to rectify this season and possibly turn around this ship. CMP does not have the luxury of time on his side. He has been loyal to his players but now is the time to unload the players who have not been loyal to both him and BBN. That is both fair and equitable IMO.

This. This right here.

If it’s something we enjoy why should we take any crap from anyone telling a us HOW to enjoy it.

My mom and dad NEVER missed watching a game unless it was a work conflict or an emergency. I was raised in a UK household and grew up watching the Cats.

But no. We’re the jerk/bad fans for knowing what’s wrong and being upset about.

Seems so many on here has their self worth is tied to the UK bball team.
We been through tough times before and made it through. Let’s get those 3 starters back in the lineup and see where we go

My self worth isn’t tied to it. But it’s one of my hobbies. Imagine if someone came to you and said “You enjoy playing piano?” And upon affirmation says “Whelp. I’m breaking your piano and your hands. Smile and pretended it’s all good!”

sure. Eventually you’ll heal and get a new piano. But don’t expect people not to be down in the process of getting back.

If I haven't given up on the football team after several years of Charlie Brown shenanigans, I few games by the basketball team won't do it. Fan is a fan, not only when things are going good. They call those fair weathered fans, OP sounds like a fair weathered fan. Been a Cowboys fan since I was 5 years old (53 years), same for Wildcats, Braves, and 76ers, and will be the same team(s) fan until I die. I have seen a lot of bad, some very good, I will never switch up because they are not winning at the rate i think they should. I just suck it up and keep on keeping on as one day, it will change for the better.

I’m sorry IL Wildcat, I respect you immensely, but if you really would let the success or lack thereof of a college basketball team over one season ruin a Christmas holiday, it might very well be time to reevaluate life’s priorities.

I learned this lesson the hard way after my non-sports fan wife set me straight after 2015 Wisconsin. I was moping and being a grumpy jerk for days. She sat me down and said “How long are you going to be an ******* to people in your personal life over a game you didn’t play or coach in?” I wanted to defend myself but knew my actions were indefensible. I have been working on not sweating things I can’t control since. It’s been a true blessing for me. I went from getting mad over sports outcomes for days to being over them in a couple hours.

Yes, this sucks. It’s not pleasant or fun. It’s not the UK basketball I grew up with. Neither was 2020-21 but we all survived it.

If being a UK football and Bengals fan for 40+ years has taught me anything, I’m not a front runner. I’m still going to follow my team whether they’re good or not.
Fellow Bengals fan as well. I haven't missed a UK basketball game since 2000. A NCAA tournament game against St. Bonaventure. Prior to that 1979 was the last time I missed watching or listening to a game.
I will always watch till I die. If they are 40 and 0 or 10 and 21. I will watch regardless of record. Sucks to watch a loss. But it is what it is. It is sports and it is entertainment. A break for a couple hours from life.

Equating not wanting to watch this trash product on TV to a childish act is the height of idiocy. Fan support means nothing to these mercenaries.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience with the rest of us. This statement from you wasn't childish at all! ;)

I’ll watch the rest of this year, but if Kentucky decides to runback this disaster of a season with another by bringing back Pope, I’m not watching until there are quantifiable changes to the program. Not just getting rid of Pope but a Calipari in 2009 level hire. If they rid of Pope only to push another unproven coach, I won’t bother until they can prove they’re not another retread of the same crap.

I’m only holding out hope that the bigger disaster this year is, the more likely the adults in the room take the keys away from Mitch Barnhart and rectify the massive disservice he has wrought upon us.

Those players are making at least 6 figures. Do you honestly think they give two $#!+$ if you don't watch?

I can name several first and second year coaches that are far surpassing who Pope is doing with a heck less money. This team plays the top 3 SEC teams 6 games plus road trips to Arkansas, and Auburn. Buckle up fellas.

Sadly, it's getting that way for a lot of people. People in all walks are frustrated. Like everything else, UK basketball has become a victim of shrinkflation.

I don’t even want to be in the presence of Barnhart. Couldn’t keep my mouth shut. That enough comment like this is the university of Mitch and he will determine how we ask questions and how the media will ask questions no sir.

He’s always been a gaslighter. Like when he said they have Playfly!, they have Learfield! They have Learfield!! They have Learfield!!! We have JMI!! Go back and notice how he worded that. Only one has Playfly, only one has JMI, the rest Learfield. And Playfly is bigger than JMI.

literally wanting you to screw thinking and consider them all the same, throw it in the wash and hit spin cycle. No.

What he didn’t say? No SEC team went with JMI, they’re far smaller than the others, and all big time programs have turned them away. But he gaslights the hell out of people. He’s done it with these insane coaching contracts too. Stoops must be good!!! Mitch must have done great!!! He’s on a 60 million dollar deal only great coaches get that!!

nobody in the media did any follow up after he said enough. They’re scared of access. So is Matt. It was very obvious that day he’s a liar a gaslighter he someone who yields power right or wrong. He wouldn’t have worded it like that if he wasn’t. He’s a manipulator and a hatchet man

I agree with you 100%. Right now the administration running this program has no desire to make any changes that will put us at the top again. I suspect there is a lot of financial corruption at the top, given the fact that UK has taken a lot of federal money. Mitch‘s response to the fans, Calling us microwaves, is just a tiny example of the mask slipping from what is definitely an attitude that we are irrelevant. We do not matter. The goal of this administration is to pocket money for themselves.

College basketball as we knew it is gone, it has been replaced by a professional basketball league with annual free agency and zero salary cap. It is the worst of everything the NBA tried to eliminate. The days of falling in love with players and enjoying teams is over. Essentially all we do now is root for uniforms that are filled by mercenaries. If you don’t like your players, don’t worry, they will be playing for another team next year. Rinse, repeat.
Well said ... wish it weren't true. In all honesty, it may not be true but there's too many questions that have gone unanswered. We need an independent AUDIT of athletic department, too many questions surrounding JMI and the negative impact of that arrangement and who really is benefitting financially besides JMI. I'm really getting very sick and tired of Mitch denying there's smoke while the fire burns us in the ***. Capiluto needs to be the first to go because they're all likely protecting each other. If "things" don't make sense, that's because we don't have all the pertinent information and there's a lot that doesn't make sense.

I strongly disagree with you. Throughout the history of Kentucky, there has been some tough periods now we've tough through it and come out on top each and every time. I'm not sure you can be a diehard fan if you can't tough it through the bad times and continue to support the team. I don't think this is the same poster as we knew before because honestly saying this boycott is as stupid as that idiot that wanted boycott in front of Rupp a few years ago. Supporting the program is calling things out when the program is not being protected correctly. We only have power in numbers. If we don’t, the administration and coaches would love nothing more than support when the product is bad. It keeps them employed and making millions of dollars.

We are the only guard, fans emptying stadiums and applying pressure creates change through collective action.

Kentucky is almost fail proof. When it’s this bad, we should call it and call for changes to at least apply pressure they can hear.
