Loyola, DePaul, and even Notre Dame actually get kids who are not Catholic.

But at Loyola we try to covert them. 😇

First up! Let's bowl him over and get the commitment before he visits the other schools.
Honestly, I like it when they go to the other schools first and they're still uncommitted and visiting NU.
The more the kid is willing to take the time to weigh his options, the better it is for Northwestern.

Not every Catholic kid goes to Notre Dame.

Also, I’d imagine that most high-level Catholic league ballplayers — especially those not named Gallagher or McGuire or O’Malley or (insert generic Irish name) — are basketball players first and Catholics second.

How about one named Koehler?

Guess being Catholic was a close second for Koehler.

Guess being Catholic was a close second for Koehler.

Well, in this kids case, he is graduating from Cathedral High School in Indianapolis, where the team name is the Fightin Irish.
It happens to be Micah Shrewsberry's alma mater.
So, not a real shock that he'd take the Notre Dame offer.

However, I'd still put the NIL money, the playing time and the coach ahead of the Catholic aspect.

I'll just assume we were his 2nd choice (ahead of Iowa, Wake and Va Tech, obviously) and that Collins can snag him via the portal after Koehler gets in Shewsberry's doghouse.

Never said him being Catholic was the top factor in his decision; just another reason to pick ND
