Just noticed after meet during handshake, Brands and AJ were looking to be enjoying a short chat with smiles. Wondering if AJ still hangs out in Iowa City with Angelo and possibly Brands. They looked like old friends meeting up. Did anyone see Angelo last night? BK isn't so Im hoping AJ wins the Nattys this year. If BK elects football next year, maybe we bring AJ in to wrestle with his brother one year while Mocco develops.

I’m hoping that AJ does come over and wrestle with Angelo, if there’s any possibility there 👀
It’s been obvious this year that he’s trying to remain friendly with Iowa. Didn’t even do the double bicep splits for the home crowd after winning. Even though this traffic thing doesn’t seem to be as big a deal as we thought, our AD probably wouldn’t budge even if he remained perfect since the SS. Ben would have to take a year off wrestling, unless he plans to cut to 197 again.

you have to be able to be enrolled as a student... and any type of exceptions would have to come from top of the university. with AJ's legal issues, don't see that happening.

He was accepted as a student when he was planning to be here previously, even had a student email in the directory already.

He's losing weight it's hard for HWTs to keep the weight on during the season. AJ 227
Surprised he was that light (AJ). He looked pretty thick. That is still 30 lbs heavier than he wrestled last year, which like you said is hard to maintain in season. 30# of good weight is pretty good in itself.

I had to have Perplexity run this for me:

AJ Ferrari is still eligible because several of his college years did not count as used eligibility under NCAA rules, and he is stacking multiple redshirt-type exemptions.

How his eligibility breaks down

  • 2020–21 at Oklahoma State was the COVID year, which the NCAA did not charge against any athlete’s eligibility, so that season is essentially “free.”
  • 2021–22 at Oklahoma State was cut short by his January 2022 car accident; he is seeking a medical redshirt for that year, which would preserve that season of eligibility.
  • He did not compete for any college program in 2022–23 or 2023–24, and is treating one of those as a standard redshirt and one as an Olympic redshirt, both of which can preserve eligibility when properly approved.
  • He returned to competition at Cal State Bakersfield in 2024–25, placed third at NCAAs at 197, and that season clearly counts as one used year of eligibility.

Current remaining eligibility

  • Trackers and transfer reports list him as having two years of eligibility remaining, potentially three if the NCAA grants all waivers as he expects (especially the medical redshirt for 2021–22).
  • That combination (free COVID year, medical redshirt request, redshirt, Olympic redshirt, and only two seasons actually wrestled so far) is why, despite being in college since 2020–21, he can still wrestle multiple more NCAA seasons.

He has 5 years of eligibility because of Covid. Used the year he was kicked off the Ok St team as a redshirt year and the year he missed to fight his SA case as an Olympic RS, which is really an embarrassment that that was even allowed.

I feel like you should have to travel to and weigh in at OTTs for that to be a thing, at the very least.

Yes, this is the simple fix to it. You have to qualify for and wrestle in the OTTs to get an ORS. If you can’t even qualify for the trials, your Olympic bid was non-serious from the start. Facundo took an ORS because he lost his starting spot and was never really a serious contender for the team, but at least he spent the season concentrating on freestyle and qualified and wrestled at the trials. That should need the minimum to get an ORS.
