Eventually was going to happen once we got our crap together.
We will start scheduling rivalries again soon, however with the transfer portal and the NIL,

The NFL has 32 teams, neatly divided into eight four-team divisions. The MLB and NBA each have 30 teams, split into six divisions of five teams apiece. There's a beautiful logic and symmetry to that type of structure. It just makes sense.
Now contrast that harmonious order with the anatomical BS of the ten FBS conferences.
Seven schools are independent, with no conference affiliation at all. The Big 12 has 10 teams and no divisions. The Big Ten, SEC, ACC and Conference USA each have 14 teams across two divisions. The MAC, Mountain West and Pac-12 have 12 teams apiece in two divisions.
Meanwhile, the Sun Belt has 10 teams in two divisions, and the AAC has a motley crew of eleven teams after UConn decided to go independent.
There are 130 teams at the FBS level. Add two top teams from the FCS ranks and bring that total to 132. At that point, the entire FBS field could be split into eleven conferences of 12 teams, with two geographically arranged divisions therein. It could be accomplished rather efficiently, and circling back to geography here it would solve a plethora of logistical and budgetary issues that long out-of-state road trips present to athletic programs.
So why not restructure, if for no other reason than to grant such programs a chance to function and compete with greater fluidity and constancy?
Unfortunately Money and Greed are the main focus of the moronic Media and Mega Conference ***** mongers.
Right now in 2021 and the near future, the constraints of conference structure have far more detriments than benefits.
Things such as Geography, Balance and History ahould matter.

Regardless if he stole it or not, it won’t happen in the same sense we will never get a Congress that Universally agrees on every issue. They are independent institutions with their own agendas/missions/decision making structures. What works for Bama, may not work for UTEP and it’s a fool’s errand to try and get these schools to universally agree on almost anything.

SEC Will eventually break away from the NCAA. And let’s face it, the NCAA is an absolute, positively, the biggest joke ever assembled.
At this point, there isn’t any need for the NCAA. We are paying players and paying them well. Players are allowed to transfer and be recruited by other schools offering money. So what justifies their existence? Nothing.
They refuse to discipline Blue Bloods schools like Kansas and North Carolina, and come back with retroactive punishments by vacating wins.
Vacating wins? Think about that. The most ignorant form of discipline I have ever encountered. Who gives a damn if you vacate a win seven years ago? Everybody’s already been paid and the game has been played. Future punishment does not happen in any of the circumstances.
Penn State alone should have never been able to participate in athletics again, however they get a slap on the wrist the most grotesque and complete lack of institutional control in the history of college athletics.
So I hope all the conferences do align. I hope the B-Ball tournament only allows power five schools, I hope the SEC creates their own league and makes billions, whatever it takes to get the NCAA abolished.
