Dominate The State: Penn State adds four-star DL Jameial Lyons
Penn State football picked up its 10th commitment in the Class of 2023 Friday from Philadelphia native and four-star prospect Jameial Lyons.
Every single Penn State tweet about our signees, someone says “Welcome”, followed by “Steve Tuttle” stating “Per NCAA rules you can’t say welcome”. He never misses a chance to state this. What the hell is he stating and I presume he’s full of BS and/or misinterpreting something, ad nauseum.
We can hand signees buckets of cash, but don’t say “Welcome” - ?
I don't know who Steve Tuttle is or where he gets his information, but nothing in the NCAA rules prohibit a PSU fan, alumni, or random resident of the greater State College area from saying "welcome" when a kid commits. There are people whose relationship with the university or football program is such that they are subject to restrictions on contact with recruits, but just liking a school or even being a graduate of the school doesn't automatically put you in that category.Every single Penn State tweet about our signees, someone says “Welcome”, followed by “Steve Tuttle” stating “Per NCAA rules you can’t say welcome”. “We called my mom and tears were coming down her face. I never felt a joy like that inside, knowing that I’m doing something good. Where I’m from, I could be doing a lot of other stuff, but I’m out here chasing dreams, trying to provide for my family. I’m not going to lie, it kind of brought tears to my eyes, too. It’s a dream. A lot of people work for this. I’m so thankful.”
Who knows, but if you follow the proper guidance about Twitter and recruiting it's a non issue. Yep, and Lyons looks bigger and more physically developed than some of the top H.S. DE recruits, which I hope translates into early contributions on the field at PSU. Obviously DDI at 6'5" 255 with his athleticism seems to be ready to go, but there have been a few that have come in and seem to be projects physically. Hope Jameial can be an early contributor!!Good quotes. Jameial sounds like a good kid with good motivations.
Also nice to learn that Lyons shot up to the top of the staff's wish list after he graded out for them at camp.
Phenomenal. Honestly, a friend and I created a John Tuttle at my a job once and he got a shoutout at a staff meeting and I had a coworker come into my office looking for him to thank him for helping her out earlier in the day. It was amazing.
Recruiting health in the commonwealth?I'm glad when we keep the PA talent at home, but wish we'd give up on the "dominate the state" mantra. Kind of cheesy.
We aren’t going to win if we don’t draw from that 300 mile radius talked about as well as nationally. I think you can see that in the offers that are made. We, in Pa., just don’t have anywhere near the talent we used to.I'm glad when we keep the PA talent at home, but wish we'd give up on the "dominate the state" mantra. Kind of cheesy.
If you look at where the recruits came from in the last few recruiting classes, it’s pretty spread out. Actually, since Franklin has arrived they have reached into areas PSU hasn’t traditionally gotten many kids, like FL. Unfortunately, Franklin can’t win. If he reaches out of that 300 mile radius, he is criticized for not getting all the PA kids. If he goes hard after all the PA kids, he gets criticized also. In reality, he’s done a pretty good job identifying talent and pursuing it, regardless of where the talent comes from.We aren’t going to win if we don’t draw from that 300 mile radius talked about as well as nationally. I just ran in to Tuttle yesterday at lunch!Phenomenal. Honestly, a friend and I created a John Tuttle at my a job once and he got a shoutout at a staff meeting and I had a coworker come into my office looking for him to thank him for helping her out earlier in the day. It was amazing.
Pa talent is much stronger as of late. This kid is ranked at #19 in the state by rivals which grades him a 5.6. What gives? Is he a reach or is he just that under rated? Thought they were in the running for some much higher rated DL prospects or are they...We aren’t going to win if we don’t draw from that 300 mile radius talked about as well as nationally. 24/7 has him rated as the #7 rated recruit in PA and #13 composite rated prospect in PA. Rivals has, for years, rated recruits far differently than other recruiting services. They have even been accused of only rating kids that show up to their camps. At this point, using Rivals as a measuring stick is like using dial up internet service.Pa talent is much stronger as of late. This kid is ranked at #19 in the state by rivals which grades him a 5.6. I'm not sure if he does. The on3.com article used the phrase in the headline. Does Franklin still use it?
