When my granddaughters were little I would sit at the pc with one on each knee and play that over and over and over again. They loved it and still do.

They should set a criteria for open enrollment. Private schools like Davidson, students have to have a "B" average just to get accepted or recruited, correct me Tango if I'm wrong.

"Any" student that wants to transfer, should have a "C" average at least... but I'm no genius here. Yes, this new proposal will get abused greatly. But as you can see, sports means the world for small town kids here in SC.

As far as rumors go about hiring a new head coach at Albemarle, I could easily find our how far along they are. But guarantee that we already have our man, we're keeping it on the hush hush....

The wild card is the new Principal. Could he bring in a coach from down East? I know of a couple from his area that would be great hires...if they wanted to come this way.

Guys I have this gut feeling that this board is going to approve open enrollment instead of redistricting.

You are exactly right. You hit the ball out of the park and helped the #3 car to put Bodine right in the wall.

I had a gut feeling that the redistricting could not occur until AFTER the sales tax referendum hit the November 2016 ballots. Open enrollment is a simplistic thing to do that is nothing more than mere window dressing. If the open enrollment policy passes, I'm wondering if the final draft will be effective for the current year or the 2016-17 school year. It really could go either way. I do believe that such a policy would not effect more than 50 kids in the high school ranks.

I do question whether the open enrollment would pass, but really it doesn't matter. If it passes and doesn't solve the problem, which it won't, you will have more public support for redistricting. If it doesn't pass, you will still see more support for redistricting.

I personally believe that Albemarle and South Stanly will be safe for the next two school years. The date that needs to be circled on everyone's calendar is November 8, 2016. The sales tax referendum is where the vulcanized rubber meets the road. If the sales tax referendum passes the two schools will be safe for another decade or so. If it doesn't pass, Katy bar the door.

Buddyrich,check into NewHanover
Schools and see the problems they
are having with Open Enrollment.
I guess it depends on By Laws u
put into policy how bottom line
will come out. AHS is and will be
A power house in Football. Your
legendary coach Jack Faster, Baxter
Morris is from my school here.
West Columbus. Both are great
coach. Bless Jack. Baxter knows
Football and how to deal with kids.
Good luck, and will AH stay 1A next

Since I believe there's a good chance the school board will approve "open enrollment" for the coming year what kind of impact will this have. Think it was Forever that said he believed only about 50 students would participate in it. I believe the only students that might be interested are the ones that drive. Therefor jrs and srs. With the "85% capacity rule" guess no one could transfer to WS and maybe NS as they are close to capacity. Since redistricting will probably happen next year this will more than likely be a one year deal. If approved it will be interesting to see what kind of numbers participate in it.

I'm not sure as of right now. I think it's been a tough year and everybody is ready for a break :). I wish the new principal all the success and I am looking forward to working with him.

If Al is not gonna coach basketball next year then we will need football, soccer, volleyball, and basketball head coaches. Man it will be a long summer trying to fill all these.
Now the timeline on hiring a new HC for football. Last day of school is the 11th. Next school board meeting is the 16th. When will the new principal be on campus? Guess the coaches interested will have to be interviewed. If we can't get it done by the next board meeting that could push it back to July 7, next school board meeting. Looks to me like it could be July before we know who the next coach is. Maybe the process can be speeded up somehow.
Let me also say hats off to all the students, teachers and coaches for weathering the storm of a very eventful and troubling year at AHS. We now have a reprieve for at least one year. I'm sure all involved are looking forward to a break from all this and a little time to catch their breath.
Once we get the new principal and coaches in place lets move forward people and make 2015-16 one of the best yet. Go Dogs.

And here is yet another thought. Since there are no major employers in SC how about turning Ridgecrest into a trade school. You could teach bricklaying, heating and AC, plumbling, electrical, carpentry, and the list goes on. These are trades where a student could learn a skill and make a good living. Just a thought.

The trade/vocational school idea could possibly even be offered through or in partnership with SCC instead of solely by SCS.

High school students have to pass other basic required courses (English, Sciences, Math, Social Studies, etc.) in addition to any vocational courses in order to meet state graduation requirements. So, possibly students could spend half a day at their "home" high school taking the core courses, and be bused to/from the vocational school where they receive the trade-specific training.

On the other hand, representative Burr might view this as government competition against on-the-job training by private builders, and rush an 11th hour super-secret bill through the legislature to shut it down.

This is what I know as of now. Someone at the school was asked to call the new principal and see if the interview process for a head football coach could begin but on 2 conditions. That our system would allow it and if the system he is coming from would allow him the time. Man this is harder than pulling hens teeth. lol

You kinda lost me there Buddy " if the system he is coming from would allow him the time"

I believe we will have someone in place in time. Like I said, it wouldn't be until July.

I'm pretty sure that the coach has already been determined, just waiting for the green light that's all.

Buddy I know the wait is agonizing, but from what I was told about the Spring workouts, Albemarle will have a "Squad" this year that can compete; maybe better than they have the last 3 years. We will be just fine, all Albemarle fans just need a little patience....heck after what our community has been through we need a break in action if you ask me.

I haven't heard anything, but I really haven't been asking either, I'll try to find out something from the horses mouth, even though he's a Lebron James fano_O....he's cool .

Knowing this principal, I can assure you that the new coach has NOT been determined unless he has already been involved in the process or Dr. Griffin herself has selected one. It will not take long for folks to find out that this principal calls the shots.

TW that's great! we need someone like that. I'm just glad we got somebody from the outside instead of someone who's part of the "Family" system here in Albemarle. I can bet someone is waiting for the green light. ....

I think they should leave the schools alone, leave all of them like they are. Re-open some YES!! that will reduce classroom size and more teaching jobs. It all starts in the classroom for these kids and if there is oversized rooms then some of the kids will not get the attention they need for many reasons. I believe that Stanly County schools are just fine the way they are.. if they combine schools then it takes some of the in county rival games away from the fans and players. We as Stanly County have a ton of State Championships that represents the county well, I mean look at South Stanly probably one of the smallest in the county almost had another, yes I said it ANOTHER state championship this past weekend in baseball. I hope the money hungry dummy's at the school board will leave things alone... go for improvement not failure

Wes Herlocker officially put the Albemarle Men's vacancy on the NCHSAA website. Looks like Al Andrews has decided to hang it up.

Could there be one coach selected to handle both hoops and football? We are late in the game on hiring the two premier coaching positions.

I do not think we need to close any right now but what schools should be reopened?

A "ton" of state titles. Stanly County has made solid showings in 1A playoffs but fairly limited to football at Albemarle and baseball at South. West won a girls 2A softball title. Have any other teams sport titles been won since 2001?

Coach Andrew is a fabulous coach. He has done a fantastic job at Albemarle and it won't be the same without him. Congrats to Coach Andrew on a excellent career and a heck of a season last year.

Whatever coach they decide to bring in will have a good group of kids to work with.

Your right, no other SC has been won in Stanly County since 2001 team wise. Individually, we have had State Champion's in Track and Field and I believe we had one guy win a SC in Wrestling. Either way you look at it, we have a good foundation of athletes across the board. But I can only speak for Albemarle.

But Albemarle did win a team SC in Wrestling back in 94 I believe was the year. My cousin and cousin-in-law was on that team.
