Albemarle wants him but they must make the logistics work. Some people may not like the plan to make it work and that can derail things.

I honestly think that SCS needs to take a look at Albemarle and realize that yes money is important but in the grand scheme this is not a huge amount of money and this hire could be a huge difference maker not only on the field but also for a lot of young men on a much larger level.
Very well stated Btango!!!!!

Russell Stone would be the shot in the arm that the Bulldog program needs. Russell loves coaching football and he loves his players. He's also one of the top 20 coaches in the state. He's a good friend of mine and I know he wants the job.

The one thing that Russell brings to the table that is so desperately needed at AHS is leadership. He holds himself accountable. He will also add much excitement to the fan base. Over the past couple of seasons there have been many Albemarle fans that have been second guessing the coaches. That will stop when or if Stone comes aboard. If you hear anyone question Stone's ability I'd stay clear of the idiot.

I don't think this is a done deal yet because some details must be ironed out. It's not really about the money, but more about perception. Some will not like him being hired for no fault of his own.

He sounds like our kind of guy. Being a "former" member of the No Class Club I would prefer him to be able to run up the score whenever possible, Never kick a field goal whenever there is a chance of scoring a TD and be willing to kick an onside kick when up double digits. (Especially when playing teams within our county.) And he must be willing to keep in the starters into the 3rd quarter.

Is he any kin to Pete Stone? Past W Stanly HC.

Don't think so. Russell Stone is from Rowland NC.

Stone's first year out of college (UNC) he was the head football coach at his alma mater. Was a head coach for all 30 years that he was a full time state employee and a few years as a part time employee at Byrd. His first assistant position was last season at Northern Guilford. Been an HFC in state title games. Won as an assistant. Won a state title as a head baseball coach.

I asked a mutual friend about Russell's record. My friend gave me this link that details Russell's coaching career:

I think Albemarle would look good on his resume.

Unless you are dead, you aren't a former member of the NCC.

Heard he is coming down one day this week to speak with the county AD Mike Williams. Does anybody know Mike. Folks I know Russell wants the job so I think if he doesn't get it we will have screwed it up on our end.

If we are fortunate to get Stone as the head coach I am confident that we won't have to forfeit any games under him for player eligibility issues.

That shouldn't be a problem. Just leave it up to Buddy. He'll post to himself and then answer. He can go on and on and on and on because he's getting so old he won't remember.:p

I tip my hat to Wes for working these kids hard during the off season. When I was up there last week he had them running sprints and throwing the football. When and if Stone takes over he at least will have some kids that are getting into football shape to work with. That has not been the case the last several years.

I really wish Wes would be able to be an assistant coach because he was a very good football player at North. It was one of our previous school board rulings that the AD could not coach any sports. I think that rule is still in place today.

A lot of school systems do not allow AD to coach. The paperwork load on an AD is unbelievable.

Just a thought but Terry Deese might agree to be the AD if he gets paid for it. Understand while he was AD when Wes was on sick leave he did not receive one penny for his work. That is not right. Anyway if this would work then Wes could be an assistant coach. Like I said it might be an option.

After the rule that the AD could not coach was put in place or supposedly put in place Mark Little became the AD/HFC at West Stanly.

I think they should have an AD and an assistant. If the AD is football coach he steps up big in the spring and the assistant deals with all non football issues.

Today is the day folks. Russell Stone and his wife are coming down to meet with everyone at the school. Don't know who everyone includes but I would assume both AD's maybe the principal and who knows who else. We should know today if he gets the job or not. Can't wait.

The man in question is coming to town Friday. Hoped for final decision but looks like it is another week.
Hope it works out in favor of the program. Seems a little discombobulated.

He met with all 3 AD's this afternoon. County AD Williams and 2 Albemarle AD's Deese/Herlocker. All 3 are going to recommend him. He will met with the new principal Kilgore next Tuesday and hopes to start the job on July 1. Your birdie was right pride2005.

Not really Buddy. When you're sober, you'll realize...I'm just not that funny. Imagine that.. A no class sober ....nah, my imagination isn't that good either.

I fully expect Stone to be the next HC at Albemarle starting probably on July 1. So that gives him one month before official practice begins around Aug 1. I think Wes can be a big help to him as he has been working with these kids the past year. But something tells me Stone has been studying personnel and maybe looking at film. Think I hear him tell someone that we could be a QB away from a SC. He must like what he sees. Hope some of the assistants return as he will need some help. I have heard that a couple will not return.
This guy is a winner folks. He has over 250 wins as a HC so I am hoping he will stay long enough to get number 300. Just think a coach at Albemarle staying more than 1 year. Never thought we would have this kind of problem. I also think he will be very good for the school as a whole with his leadership. Now if the new principal can step up and put some leadership in the school maybe, just maybe we can start to right the ship at Albemarle. Lots of work to do folks. Go Dogs.

On another note note I have heard that he will fully embrace the NCC. Sooo we need to get it up and running again. This time it will be the "over the hill version". Some of the orginial members have passed on and those of us left are probably just as a step away from the "twilight zone". I will talk to Bluebones and see if we can get things rolling again. We need to start a membership drive so we can replenish the funds that he and I have squandered away. Jack is probably sitting up in heaven smiling.

They have not had problems winning about 80% of their games and making deep runs. Lost consistency in the staff last few years and issues hiring coaches that work in the school.
