We have some excellent players but lack being a championship ''team''.
I just don't think we have what it takes up front. I think we saw further evidence of that yesterday. We could get lucky, as in 2017 when UConn got knocked out in the semis, but that kind of good fortune is what this team would need in order to repeat.

So a couple of weeks ago when we beat them by 17, you likely had a different opinion.

I just had the opinion that they couldn't throw it in the ocean and that we have a tough place to play.

We're headed to to the land of one loss by one point and you're out, and the ice under us is a lot thinner than it was.

Hey, we could squeak through, but anyone who doesn't see that this team isn't markedly less formidable than recent editions is deceiving himself.

Our biggest concern is the big dominant post player like UCLA has. I’ve checked in on numerous games, which 10 years ago I would’ve called you crazy if you said I would be watching women’s basketball this intently… Lol. Very few teams have someone like Betts this year. And actually, she’s probably the only one.

so kind of like Cardoza for us, she can change the game. We just need to figure out how to approach that big body. Even though we lost Texas, I still haven’t seen a team better than us overall this year. Not saying we can’t lose if we don’t play tough defense and hit shots, but I still like our chances. Maybe if we get to UCLA again being the underdog will help motivate us.

With UCLA's loss last night, we picked a bad week to fall to #5. The door was opened for us to slide back to the #1 spot and the likely recipient of the #1 overall seed, but Texas slammed that door shut on us.

Motivation won't be enough.

You're right about that. I'm glad UCLA came back to lose, however.

I'm disappointed, mildly surprised, but not shocked. We would have struggled against certain teams after Cardoso, and losing Watkins was a further detraction. But this is not one of the great UConn teams. This is an awful loss, especially at home - extremely deflating, comprehensively embarrassing.

Maybe this spanking by Connecticut with be the same as the 2010 baseball team going 0-2 in Hoover.

We can hope.......

That's really putting hope on the spot.
Given the fact the Texas is now #2 in the country and though we lost a 4 pt game at their place a last week, we soundly beat them at our place by 17, I would say we have enough to bounce back and still win it all asl long as we correct our faults.

I hope you are correct, Partner - really I do. But I believe we have a besetting weakness that can't be corrected because it involves a resource we don't currently have.
