Can’t imagine things aligning on this one. Geo, salary, performance expectation, etc.

Burn out. Bronco encouraged his assistant coaches to leave the office so that they could enjoy dinner with their families.

Dex spent 10 years on the UVA staff between GA, RB, and S coach. It's very likely he could be offered this job with Pry to VT as a major catalyst.

Bronco was a left field hire. No east coast ties at all. Dex is home grown and been recruiting the east for 15 years. UVA defense was horrible this year as well.

Reading this guys quotes, i don't know if he is Mormon(from his BYU history) or not, but he is a deep thinker. He very clearly thinks there is more to life than money and football, he's the antithesis of Brian Kelley. Paterno was like this guy. Loves football but it doesn't define him, it doesn't define life.

His youngest sons are going on missions soon, so pretty sure he's LDS. He and his wife are about to be empty nesters. I'm guessing he regrets some of the time away from family. He's been coaching 31 years and married 25. Sounds like he's burned out a bit and stepping away from football to get re-energized and maybe coach again at some point.

You are correct. He’s not a dope with a whistle.

And has a DC background. 🤔

Who knows, but he always seemed to portray as a good, decent guy.
If that is true, it would have to be very hard to remain in the major college football coaching world - especially once he and his family are financially secure, which they certainly should be by now. If he loves coaching, he can always do that through other outlets.

The number of truly decent men who are near the upper echelons of contemporary college football coaching is very small - and to draw inspiration from an old story Joe Paterno liked to tell, is probably at least one less than most coaches think it is.

Agreed. good for him. Human. This dude's actually kind of my hero. Has his LIFE priorities in order.

Mendenhall suddenly resigned Thursday citing a need to "reassess, renew, reframe and reinvent, with my wife as a partner, our future and the next chapter of our lives."
