I love me some Bruce Irvin. Right up their with Owen on my list. But he wasn't even an every down player in college where he was a freak of nature. He is an above average player at the NFL level but to this point he's not proven he is worth blowing up your salary cap when your QB and best defensive players are up to be signed.

I love him to but above average NFL player? He played on an elite defense where he rarely if ever was targeted in protection schemes and he still couldnt sniff even a 10 sack season. Hes just another player, only WVU fans know who he is, and Seahawk fans who probably feel as if they wasted a first. If they redid that draft Bruce probably goes in the 4th round.

As a Seahawks fan, they don't consider him a bust at all. He has played well. First round pick well? That's subjective. He's done most everything they have asked of him. They would love to keep him, but the money doesn't work. That's how it goes these days. He'll make like 1.7 next year after which he'll likely test the market. There were rumors of a trade to Atlanta, but Seattle didn't confirm that and probably wouldn't do that. If he walks and does well, they'll take the compensatory pick. They love those.

He didn't pan out as an edge rusher like he was drafted, but since moving to linebacker he has been a solid contributor to that Seahawks defense. So he was a bust as a first round draft pick, but he is not a complete bust as an NFL talent.

So he has 1 more year left in Seattle and hits the open market? If so, hopefully he goes off next year and gets a great FA deal.

Agreed, he is definitely a contributor, if he wasn't he wouldn't be on the field as often as he is, but he is not a gamechanging sack machine like he was here, and likely what the Seahawks were expecting he would be. He will still last in the league, but likely as a journeyman, which isn't bad by any means.
