Dinardo should be here. Should be a good opportunity for signs to raz him about NU being happy to make (or win?) a bowl game.
He already made some comment about expecting that he's not going to be very popular here.
In fairness to Dinardo, through the Pelini years he was very high on us in the preseason and we always managed to let him down. I cannot blame him for his prediction this year one bit. Just excited to see this team come together much better than many expected.
I heard Dinardo explain his prediction. He attended what was probably one of the worst and least physical practices Nebraska had. I would rather have an analyst be honest and down on us than pump sunshine. Then, when they do compliment the Huskers we know they mean it and really see something.
I always scowl when I hear a poor former coach critique coaching moves and rank teams on the TV. Take their opinion for what it's worth. To be fair we've got a couple of gaping holes on our O and D lines it appears to me....

He forgot to mention the practice day before, we held a very physical scrimmage and the staff let the TV personalities know that. They also let them know they were scaling back the day of their visit. For some reason, he didn't mention either, at least that I can recall.
Dinardo is 59-76-1 as a college head coach. He was fired at LSU, and he was fired at Indiana. In 11 seasons, he had 9 losing records. If you include his one season as a head coach in the XFL, he had 10 of 12 losing seasons.
Dinardo is a talking head, nothing more or less. His opinion means as much to me as the guy at a Waffle House, dressed in a nice suit.
Good post. My thoughts exactly. There is a reason why he is in a TV studio rather than on the field coaching a team somewhere. Why we should care even a little what this guy thinks is beyond me.
All of that failure and yet he still has more knowledge than probably 99.9% of the posters on this very site.
That is not the point. Of course he does in terms of the X's and O's of football. But what we are questioning are his credentials for judging a team's capabilities given his own pathetic record as a coach. Taking his opinion seriously is hard to do given his own failures.
Why, because he failed as a coach? I'm not a fan of deflecting a topic to put focus elsewhere. Dinardo was a head coach, that doesn't make his opinion gospel. There's a strong case to be made that his opinion, specifically since Nebraska joined the Big 10 Conference, is no different than "99.9% of the posters on this very site".
Some of you act like he said NU was the worst team in the nation and that they won't win a single game.
My point is simple........even a failed Div 1 coach has much more knowledge of the game than many on here would like to admit. It is still an opinion of course, but I would be much more likely to listen to his opinion than most everyone on this site.

Well, to be fair, I think most coaches realize when they take a job, that it's just a matter of time before they are fired. Just look at Les Miles? Does anyone think he's a bad coach? All it takes is a few down seasons and most coaches find themselves on the hot seat. Even moreso, at schools with some success under their belt. Great rewards, while they have the job, but long term planning is probably tough for a coach & his family.
Uh, no, I don't think that's fair at all. There's a difference in having success at a very high level, like Les Miles has had, compared to Gerry DiNardo.
One coach is 141-55 with a 2-1 record in BCS games, 2 SEC championships, 1 national title & five top 10 finishes.
DiNardo has been fired from two coaching jobs because he's a bad coach.
I just want to clarify......Are you saying the DiNardo knows less about college football than fans on this site? Because his record and being fired from multiple schools? Does he have less knowledge than the average fan?
I'm saying that Les Miles is a proven winner, and Gerry DiNardo is not. Simple as that.
I'm also saying DiNardo's opinion doesn't matter to me. Why? Because he's a poor coach, one that was fired from LSU and Indiana. Simple as that.
I'd have to listen to the average fan to know if their knowledge is less than, equal to or even better than DiNardo. Regarding Nebraska, he's been wrong. A lot.
Let's use you as an example. Obviously you are an above average and very knowledgeable fan. Do you know more about college football than DiNardo?
I'd put my knowledge of the game against DiNardo, every day of the week & twice on Sunday. Without question.
