We have three true Frosh that look to be the foundation for the future that we have seen grow before our eyes with the significant playing time that they have gotten. That is a pretty good start, most similar to the first year with Collin's first class with McIntosh, Law, Skelly, and Lindsey
We got our *** kicked by a pretty ****** MN team with five healthy players last night. They played one guy off the bench for eight total minutes.

Oh, and we’re losing out one actually really good player.

We need to be way way better. I like West and Singleton too, and I increasingly like Clayton and even Reid as rotational guys, but we’re not close. I’m of the belief we need a star guard out of the portal, but if there is a different approach to create that value in the aggregate I’m open to it. But we’re not close, little depth piece ads aren’t going to get it done.

also, two true frosh, Kropp does not look good at all. Not saying he’s a bust, but if he’s starting or a key piece next year at the start of the season we have a big assed problem

That was at least a couple weeks before selection Sunday
It was the second to the last game of the year with the last against a juggarnaught Purdue team we desperately wanted to avoid having to beat. We needed that play badly to get off the bubble. We all remember it so much because it had a huge amount riding on it and was our last best good chance to secure the needed win.

This was your statement

"It was our best team (referring to the 23 team) ever because it was the only of the three tourney teams that was basically entirely off the bubble by selection day.)

That means you were saying that first team was on the bubble on Selection Sunday. Having the deal sealed a week and a half before Selection Sunday is not on the bubble on Selection Sunday. Your statement is false., Trying to move the goal posts does not change that,

In fact, at that time, a .500 season record in the BIG and 20 wins pretty much got you into the dance and that occurred with the win over Rutgers on FEB 18th, Remember at the time there were only 18 BIG games so 0.500 occurred with 9th conference win (which was also the 20th win overall)., Maybe still on the bubble but on the right side of it. The Mich win gave them a 10 conference wins which guaranteed having a record at least 2 games over 0.500 (and guaranteed overall winning BIG record including the BTT),. That win insured the bid, In addition though they did not need them, that team also had a couple BTT wins as well

I think my problem with this whole line of thought is it drastically underestimates what happens when the guys on our roster actually get better. The barrier to entry is higher, but so is that talent level we are starting with, and so are our player dev mechanisms and results. We have an established track record of developing three stars to high level conference players and even fringe NBA players now (hoping Martinelli joins that club this spring). Our floor is rising along with that of the conference.

The crux of the argument (to me, anyway) is that one NM isn’t enough, we need 4-5 Martinellis to compete in the top half of the B1G.

I’d counter that in Singleton, West, and Gelo we have a core that could easily be exactly that. Kropp has showed skill and in Bannerman we know we at least have size. We have a new “best recruit in our history” incoming next year along with a developmental big with even more size.

I want Page, Reid, and Green back. I think another year with our staff could pay huge dividends. I am confident the coaches will find a bomber with the NIL budget we have.
{People here should remember how far guys like Barnhizer and Martinelli improved during there time here.

Didn't it end up as a 1 pt game and weren't we missing Page? It was also at MN and that place not an easy place to play.

Kropp is a Frosh. In a perfect world he would not have gotten that many minutes but he had to fill a need. The disappointment this year was probably Green and KJ a lot more than Kropp. Kropp has gotten a fair amount of minutes hopefully it pays benefits next year. That said, he, like the other Frosh needs to put on 15 lbs of muscle. Next year will depend on who we have and how they develop, just like always

Agree, though Kopp is pretty built already.

Tre and West are going to be stars. Kropp is a better Gavin Skelly. We’ll see about the rail thin big men. Need a shooter or two because the two you thought were their shooters drew blanks all season. A true 3 & D player. Reid needs to be a sixth man. Too inconsistent to start.
