Belvidere Bucs football is finally back. Two back to back upset victories over Hononegah (14-7) and Harlem (21-14). They have finally started to play like everyone thought they would play all season. This team is balanced all across the board. May not be the biggest in size but they will drop the hammer on you. For the first time since 2007 the Bucs are looking at a 7-2 record in their grasp and maybe a chance at a share of the NIC 10 title if Auburn and Harlem lose in these last few weeks. This team could be a threat going into the playoffs with playing 6A and 7A schools. Going to be a fun rest of the season. GO BUCS

The question is, are the Bucs really good, or is the Nic 10 really not good? Like I said before, I like seeing all the competitive games in the conference, but how will these Nic-10 teams fare against tough teams from the Chicagoland area?

Nic-10 teams are bad. None of these teams would have come close to beating the 2010-2011 Boylan teams that won state in 6A/7A, or even the Belvidere team in 2005 that lost in the 7A semi's. I would bet you will see a lot of 1st/2nd round exits for teams in the playoffs. There is more parity in the conference because more teams are around the same level of play.

If anyone goes on runs it would be a smaller school like Belvidere or Freeport in 5A as long as they don't run into a catholic school! LOL The larger schools will struggle, as usual, in the 7A playoffs. If Hononegah or Harlem ever truly want to go on a run they need to get into a different league where they might play teams that they would see in the playoffs. They all get a false sense of how good they are and then get slapped in the face with reality come playoff time!!

Yeah, I watched the Auburn v Hono game and it wasn't pretty. There is some talent on the Auburn side, but they are too sloppy with mistakes to beat a good team.

What options do they have? The Nic 10 is their only option. Unless they can somehow play a couple less conf. games and schedule a couple out of town teams with strong football traditions.

Could see some shake-ups if the IHSA does go to a district model. Would potentially play Elgin or Crystal Lake area schools.

Districts or they need to find a way to play two non-cons a year. You could still have your usual NIC 10 rivals.

Great in principal. I think some suburban high schools would love to play the NIC-10 schools in non-conference games, they would go into it expecting an easier game then from a suburban team. Also, some schools could play the Janesville, Beloit, and potentially Madison schools as well.

I think the NIC-10 AD's would not be in favor, a lot of extra work on them to find games.

Would any NIC schools be in play for Fox Valley reloading if the U-8 poaches the FV for #14 or #14-16?

The Belvidere schools almost left when they originally split. However they thought otherwise given they would be looking at 45 minute minimum drives for every game in every sport. I think they would consider again, but not sure how warm to the idea they would be.

I don't see why they couldn't just do it for football. They could stay in the Nic 10 for the other sports. Thats roughly only 4-5 games a year.

Freeport almost left the nic 10 a few years back to go to the nib 12. Enrollment is below 1200 and with everyone chasing wins in football it made sense, but they balked with the other sports not being in favor.

Freeport in the NIB-12 would make sense for them, much better fit enrollment wise.

As far as the Belvidere schools as football only members of the fox valley, I think it makes sense, and may or may not have been discussed in 2007-2008 like it would be now potentially. However, I think both HS's are fairly confident in their ability to compete in the NIC-10 in football at the moment.
