Chuck Smith did a damn good job coaching up the Lbers when he was here under RB...don't know about the recruiting angleDon't think he's doing much on this until after spring practice, I'm sure he has some candidates in mind.
Yes he did, wouldn't mind seeing him return, recruiting might be a questionChuck Smith did a damn good job coaching up the Lbers when he was here under RB...don't know about the recruiting angle
HS head coach has coached special teams. Not sure if he's good at it but he's coached it.also this coach needs to have ST experience not sure chuck has every coached ST.
You make the statement but give no reason? What is it? Go back and look at the list of guys who excelled under his tutelage and they are numerous. Like we said, we don't know about his recruiting or ST skills , but he turned out some damn good lbers and was one himself so he knows the position.anyone but chuck smith

I don't understand what your issue with chuck smith is ! LOok at the lb,s that are in the league that chuck coached!
Have you bothered to look at the talent level of the LBs UK recruited during his time here------and more important, have you looked at the number that turned out very well, several of them playing in the NFL.
Seems like UK could only recruit one good LB per year this century during his reign, here is the list per year. 2003 5.2 Johnny Williams, 2004 5.5 Woodyard, 2005 5.2 Sam Maxwell, 2006 5.9 M Johnson, 2007 5.1 R Sneed, 2008 5.3 Tre, 2009 5.5 Ridge Wilson who self destructed, 2010 5.6 Jabari Johnson and 5.6 A Williamson, the only year we had two decent commits.
Most of those LBs turned out very well, most were low two stars, and several had NFL careers. There was NOT a lot of talent being recruited during Brooks years, and no wonder with the "recruiting center" and the recruiting budget less than for four Basketball players. Tee (and Joker) was the only one that did very well------and, as Tee said, he lied to recruits about our facilities.
And in fact Smith was not NEARLY as bad a recruiter as most of Brooks staff.
Add Braxton Kelley
This is a VERY CRITICAL hire! I hope that he will pick someone who has got a strong Georgia connection in recruiting! (Georgia produces top LB's) who has a strong resume! There is absolutely no reason to not step up and pay this person accordingly! We must pay for quality! We have finally started, so we keep it up and hope for results! The next 2 years are the most critical time in UK football history! There are no more excuses! The time is NOW!Any word on possible candidate's?

Derek Abney helped that a lot! !!!Mark Nelson. We had great Special Teams when he was here before.
It isn't going to be Chuck Smith. It isn't going to be Mark Nelson. Stoops isn't dredging up the past here. He is turning the page. That much is clear. Taking Stoops at his word, he will wait until after spring practice is over, then look for a new linebacker coach who can also handle special teams. Pevato and Gran were exceptions, but Stoops has tended to hire young coaches. Young coaches are a key part of his recruiting push. The profile of a coach who will be available in May would be at the age extremes, very young or old. Maybe an out of work NFL type, or maybe a young stretch from a secondary college conference. You aren't going to get an established guy in his prime in May unless you overpay, which is what Coach Durkin did to get Coach Buh. This won't be an overpay hire unless Stoops has 1 specific guy in mind to chase, like Durkin chased Buh.
Of course not. It will be the best AVAILABLE man for the job, as defined by Coach Stoops. May is just about the worst time of the year to hire an assistant football coach. And who said Stoops won't hire the best available coach? Don't understand what you mean about family members.Shouldn't the only criteria be the best man for the job?
And eliminating family members with no experience.

Pretty sure he still lives in Lex. We have seen and talked to he and his wife on several occasions at games and practices.Steve Ortmayer is one of the best football minds in the land. Joker screwed up by letting him go when Rich left him a cupboard full of talented assistants. Not only is he a great ST coach, he's probably one of the 3-5 best talent evaluators in football regardless of what level.

Who is Cincinnati's special teams coach?
What about arguably the best we have ever had in Danny Travathen?Have you bothered to look at the talent level of the LBs UK recruited during his time here------and more important, have you looked at the number that turned out very well, several of them playing in the NFL.

Horrible post.anyone but chuck smith
Ortmayer is 70. For several reasons including age, not a replacement candidate for Buh. BTW, Chuck Smith is 58. I know someone would ask.And he's like 75 years old, sure he's chomping at the bit for a new challenge.
