IMO...the sucking sound coming out of Indiana has been going on for soooooooo long that people have become numb to it.
IU is a classic example of one coach being their entire program, just like Dook. When the Rat Faced Bastard leaves they will fall from the grace of ESPN and the NCAA. Now they may not suck as bad as Indiana but we can only hope !
they will, the only thing that keeps recruits coming is K why would any top recruit wanna come to a posh snobby rich kid private school without a legendary coach duke is looking more and more like IU by the day
K is 73 and probably should have packed it up a few years ago. Maybe he’s the kind of coach who’d rather die as a coach than step down.
Except for this guy named Branch McCracken...He won 2 National titles, 367 games....May have won a 3rd title if not for all sports at IU being placed on probation; football program was hit with sanctions. Anyways...1960 Hoosiers went 20-4, and split with eventual National champs Ohio State. That was a very good team, that won their last 12 games of the year.

before Knight, IU had 2 rather anomalous titles (40, 53) under McCracken, and not much else.
From 1938-39 (his first year) until Knight arrived (71-72), they won all of 6 Big 10 titles, had 8 losing seasons, and- aside from the two championship years- won a total of 3 NCAA tournament games, all of them in regional consolation rounds.
Then Knight arrived, and his first 16 years produced 3 titles and 4 Final Fours. Since then, two Final Fours in 33 years... and not much else.
The years before McCracken were even worse, with 13 losing seasons from the program's inception (1901) thru 1937, and only 3 Big 9/Big 10 titles.
I mean you can dissect it how you please...Fact remains, McCracken was a very good coach, that won two national titles...Also, McCracken had two stints at IU; he left for a 3 year Naval deployment for WW2....His first 5 years at Indiana, he went 87-17, with one title. When he left, he had a very, very good team returning, that may have won another title..
To say IU is a program of ONE coach, well, is wrong.
Note: Odd that you called "MCCrackens titles anomalous....But not Knights. Or at the least, his(Knights first). Do the other two validate the first? I mean, would it be fair to call Rupp's title at UK, anomalous? He won 4, yes....But he did so in 33 years; Yes I know Rupp coached for 41 years. But only 33 of those were during the NCAAT.
In other words, to call McCrackens titles anomalous is childish, my friend.
Naaah....Eventually IU will get it right...I think they have with Miller. But even if not, oh, well....It ain't life or death. Its a game. Im proud to be a fan of a program with 5 National titles.....Only three schools to date have more.
I like Miller. I like how he's recruiting/building. He's had some tough luck early with injuries...Took over a sham of a roster. If there is a this year, then this is the year IMO that he has to put up, or pack up... The pieces are there.
BUt ya know, it is what it is...Indiana winning or losing doesn't shape my life. It's a passion, for sure. And I love my Hoosiers. I yell, agonize, even cry, over the tough losses...the what could have beens, etc, etc...But at the end of the day----Its simply a game.

Naaah.....It was a tough loss, for sure. But the solace in it was, well, my wife was happy...
..Plus, if we were to lose, might as well be to UK, and the best team; unfortunately, we didn't lose to UNC....[smoke]But yeah, that was a toughie...Didn't expect to win. But then again, I didn't expect UK to shoot 35-37 from the FT line either...As the tourney progressed, I felt we were the best team UK played..

LOL I agree Borden seems like a good guy. He reminds me of a guy who used to work for me when I worked for a company in Newburgh In. He was a die hard IU fan. We argued and fought harmlessly all year long about basketball but we were close friends. He found out he had cancer and till he couldn't work anymore we still went at it the same good natured way . My friend passed away and when I went to his funeral I introduced myself to his wife and she said your the Kentucky fan he loved to mess with with and I said yes mam I am. She just laughed and said you will never know how much fun and enjoyment he got out of that.

No Mascot, No Credibility:
Are you even a real team if you don’t have a mascot? You’d think that when starting a school in one of the most boring states, creating a mascot to spice things up would’ve come to mind. Then again, it would be pretty hard to be inspired in Bloomington. (found on another board)

Well, I think a "Hoosier" is a lanky, uncouth, slack-jawed knuckle-dragging mouth breather, so guess they made the right call not having that ole boy be their mascot. So, gotta give them points for that I guess.
