People on this board always like to say we are only one bad hire away from becoming IU. That’s laughable.

IU is what happens when a coach becomes bigger than the program. When the coach IS the program. UK fans would never allow that to happen in a gazillion years. This is why IU is not a blue blood.

Somebody tell me why I shouldn’t hammer Ohio State -7 tonight. Is that a sucker bet or free money? What OSU team will show up tonight? 🤔

Huge win for the Hoosiers at THE Ohio State University. Looks like the fighting Woodsons turned the corner. Extend that contract 3 to 5 more years.

It's too bad we don't get to play them this year. And they'll probably have a different coach when we do play them next year. Woodson had a pretty good recruiting class and transfer portal haul and they still suck. Don't see how he survives this year.

Time for the Weekly Bump! Indiana sucks and loses to a super weak sauce Northwestern team. I think they have now lost to them 4 or 5 in a row. Mike Woodson can’t coach his way out of a wet paper bag.

... an 8th grade team ? Really ? Hoosier innovation in the 21st century and a new era of basketball, who knew ?

Golly gee, willikers!

Maybe we're being a lil too hard on them. I mean, after all this time (ahem - 1987?) and they got ... a basketball coach ( I guess? even though I keep seeing headlines for Indiana basketball to this very day, you know, the headlines where the students chant "Fire (insert Indiana basketball head coach name here)!!"

And they still wear red, of course - in apparent homage to former coach Robert Montgomery Knight's " Rudolph the red nosed reindeer" red colored nose.... they presumably still have candy striped colored warmup pants, are still playing in a crumbling place I keep hearing people call it ... ahh ..what was that ? oh yes ! the ancient ruins called *** Hall ?

Right?

And it is obviously a place of love, with players publicly kissing coaches on the lips and popcorn boxes commemorating regular season wins.... the list has just gone on and on

and on

and on

and on

AND ON

I mean, seriously. this thread is like, what, nearly 40 years old now and over 102, 103 pages long now, commemorating the innumerable ways Indiana has sucked over all this LONG LONG TIME.

with no end in sight.

maybe, just MAYBE we should lighten up on our sucking neighbors to the North ?

Maybe ?

**crickets chirping**

NAAAAAAAAAAH !

Truth is truth. Why sugar coat those candy striped ******** !

Suck it LOOSIERS !

I count on three things in life, well, really 4, considering this thread is still here for us to keep vigilant watch over such horrible suckage.

Death
Taxes
..... and Indiana will always SUCK

amend the adage !

Go Big Blue !

Honestly, if he is eligible and they throw him enough money I can see Will Wade doing well there. I don’t like that thought but he won’t be the one. More like Dusty May

I don't think Beard or Wade will even get a call. IU's administration has had a holier art though attitude since the Knight and Sampson off court issues.

I could see May for sure, especially given he worked in a small buyout into his contract with UM.

However, with how Cignetti turned around the football program around, I could see the AD thinking that McCollum is the basketball equivalent of a younger Cignetti and going that route.

While Brad Stevens is likely a big no, the timing for him would be much better now than anytime in the past. His son is on the football team at Notre Dame, the Celtics are getting new ownership, NIL means easier recruiting, and he won his ring last season. Still less than 1% chance that happens. I just have a feeling IU will offer him the most money in cbb in a month or so.

I'm truly grateful Sampson got fired over text messages. He's turned Houston into a perennial title contender. Then again maybe it took that firing to turn him into the coach he is today.

Will Wade ... for the L !

or maybe they could get Doug Got Dweeb ? 😉

It would be so awesome to face off against the Loosiers with either of those two on the sidelines

I'm biased (spent a couple of years in Ann Arbor) but sincerely curious: what presently makes IU a better job than U-M? Do 20th century championships matter to young coaches? Long term probably the "third fiddle to football and hockey" thing but that's mitigated if you win. Besides IU's a football school now. :)

With NIL and unlimited transfers it's hard to tell which job is better than another one now.
However, with how Cignetti turned around the football program around, I could see the AD thinking that McCollum is the basketball equivalent of a younger Cignetti and going that route.
Yeah but it's only coaches hired from James Madison who work that kind of magic.

Yeah but it's only coaches hired from James Madison who work that kind of magic.

For Dusty May himself, he grew up right outside of Bloomington and was a basketball manager under Bob Knight. He has said that IU bball was his life growing up. He and his wife's family are from Indiana.

NIL: IU has a top 3-5 NIL budget.

Admissions: UM has denied admission to multiple recruits and transfers. Dusty was not able to bring over Johnell Davis with him from FAU due to this, so it affected him before he even had a single team practice.

Recruiting ground. While Michigan has decent enough prep hoops, Indiana is one of the most fertile recruiting grounds in the country.

Salary: Mike Woodson has a higher salary than Dusty May does, by almost $1 million a year.

Venue: Assembly Hall is a better atmosphere than Crisler Arena.

Fanbase: IU's fanbase is just more passionate than Michigans. Largest student section in college.
