With such a diverse group of posters on this board, I'd like to know your go-to burger and where you get it. We all travel and there's nothing like a great burger when you are away from home.

There's a converted gas station on the edge of Crowley and Burleson TX - a real dive - called Nicky D's and they will build your burger the way you want it a half lb. patty at a time. Best I ever had and has been recognized on the Food Channel.

What say you?

ZinBurger in Scottsdale Quarter or Blue Burger in far north Scottsdale near Cave Creek. Big, Juicy, lots of variations and choices. Good wine and beer choices. There are not many good burger houses outside the USA.

You guys are freaking killing me! :D I would have to go with the Hamburquesa I had at a Taqueria in Roswell, GA, called Pure. Carne and chorizo patty on a bun with pepperjack and cheddar cheese, chipotle sauce, jalapenos, avocado, sweet onion and some other stuff that is out of this world. NO way I could eat a whole by myself. I would immediately lapse into a food coma.

Juicy Lucy at Square One in Bradenton, Florida. The owners were OU fans who migrated to Florida for retirement. If you were an OU fan you knew right away that the place had OU roots by the real deal set of longhorn horns hanging upside down above the bar. I believe the original owner, Norman's own Bill Shumate, died a couple of years ago. I'm not sure who owns it now, but they still have two locations open. They closed the Bradenton restaurant when Mr. Shumate died. Cool story though.

Runner up is the Green Egg and Ham burger at the Bodega Burger Bar in Socorro, New Mexico. It's an osasis for great food in the middle of nowhere. Socorro is home to the Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center of New Mexico Tech. They research explosives and hold year round training for responses to terrorist bombings. Bodega has fresh seafood flown in from Seattle several days a week as well. If you don't love real Hatch green chiles, you're a communist.

If you order fries with your burger, be prepared to get a mountain of fries with it. If you go with 2 or 3 other people, one order of fries will work for everybody.

have ya'll traveled to sw ok to drive up mt scott or visit the holy city of the wichitas? well a few minutes away at the meeting place of two windy roads is a post office-sized town called meers. choose the massive buffalo burger if you're adventurous or the plate-sized cheese burger...either cut into 4 giant calorie wedges with traditional potato skin covered fries. be prepared to wait a looong time though, and it's cash only. sidenote: rumor has it the mtn is closed for repairs due to falling rock hazards. bicycle or hike only.

Ahh, the onion burger. Bet it's amazing. Food Paradise show did a segment called "Route 66" featuring Tucker's Restaurant in Reno, OK. Their classic onion burger is the triple decker Mother Tuckers. Small towns do it right. Mouth watering.

The Boll Weevil...Right down on the ocean, on a sandy beach in San Diego, served up the BEST Burger I've ever eaten! The HUGE Beef Patty on a Grilled Bun, almost covered the plate, then along came a FULL Platter of Very Fresh Toppings...Build-Your-Own Style! Memorable Taste Treat, for sure! The concept grew and multiple franchises sprung up over the western part of the US. In remembering that burger, I checked the current status of the chain, and it was dismal...Only a few restaurants remain, today, and they got poor reviews. Someone didn't know how to take care of business, but they sure knew how to serve a Great Burger!

At my house. Grilled with some wet hickory chips in the grill. Best burger I have ever had and I have had them all over.
They just never cook them right at burger joints and sometimes burn them on one side and try and hide it with the cheese on the bottom.

Tornado Burger in Stafford, Tx. Best burger and by far best value I've ever had. Best spicy burger I've ever had is at small place in Sapulpa, Ok called Patriot Cafe... Firecracker burger. 2/3rd lbs burger stuffed with ghost pepper cheese. Absolutely incredible if you like spice.

Juicy's in Tyler, TX. Melvin's in Elizabethtown, NC. And back in the day, Rusty's and Earl Drug in L-Town, USA.

But the ones I grill on my Big Green Egg beat them all. I use choice ground Angus chuck, fold in diced onions, a little Worcestershire sauce, and some Dizzy Pig Raising the Steaks rub and grill them over lump charcoal and a couple of chunks of pecan. They be good. :)
