How long does it take to burn a friendship bridge? I suspected friends using me early on because of my car repair skills , but my best friend ( I thought ) took me thirty years to see his game..what say you?? The best one, got a call from somebody that I've not talked to in 6 months, says the norm, how ya doing and so on then asks by the way do you still have contacts at the ford dealer to repair my car....did not give two ***** about me or how I was doing, he called to get a hookup at a ford dealer on his car repair...

I was in business a lot of years and tried to not do business with people I knew, even at church. They appeared and I worked with them but actually tried to not do business with people I considered friends. (To this day I can count my friends on two hands.) I went through exactly what you stated. They sure liked that real good deal, then, bye bye till the next time.

"Don't take it personal" is the best advice I could give you. They don't. I have people I associate with but do not count them as close friends. Not saying anything about being friendly, I am. My thinking is if you have more than one or two real close friends in your life consider yourself extremely blessed by God.

I hope you don't have a Facebook account.

I've had a Facebook account since about 2005. I use it daily. I have 39 friends. My three children, my wife, my brother, nephew, two nieces, my brother in law(he is my brother but he and my sister divorced nearly 20 years ago. I talk with him more than I do with my sister, a couple Army buddy's, a childhood friend, three or four church friends where I grew up in Michigan and that's it...

My best friend is a county attorney. We rarely see each other, text a little here and there, and talk on the phone about 3-4 times a year.

But every time me or my wife gets a ticket, you best believe I call in a favor. And you know what my friend does? He delivers, that’s what he does.

Because that’s just what friends do.

We need all 39 names.

A friend in need is a friend indeed. I have friends on all "levels" you might say. Some that are very close and I trust completely. Some that I will occasionally do stuff with.
I have some on both sides. Ones that I will usually only call when I need help with something and I know they will always help. I have some that will only call me for the same reason. I have friends that I talk to regularly just because we are friends. I reckon that's how it is with friends.
