7 years later we have come full circle. I never thought I'd see the day. Though that was different administration. I give David a lot of credit for stepping out of his comfort zone. He had it made at Shelby. Thank you for applying and welcome home!

It will be interesting to see what type of offense he wants to run. I would assume he wants to run the same type of defense Shelby has ran the past several years. Although he may have to do some things different seeing as how we don't have the same type of athletes Shelby has at this point in time.

I am o.k. with this hire. David had a rough year the one year he was interim but that was a long time ago and was just one year. He had to follow Greene who had been there over 20 years and that had to be tuff. Anyway, I feel he has likely learned a lot at Shelby under Coaches Norman and Ware and will come back to Burns much wiser, much more skilled and ready for another crack at being a head coach. I would love to see him run Shelby's system on both sides of the ball. Lord knows if we can get the athletes in place, it works. Three titles in a row speaks for itself. I really hope kids at Burns will come out and play for the guy. On a side note, wouldn't it be nice to get a couple of good shelby athletes to follow Devine to Burns? I would love to see our dogs be on the receiving end of this transfer thing.

We have 8 of 11 back on offense - Hill, Barbee , Epps and all but one of our O line. We need a couple of speedy receivers for sure.

Most likely the best selection given Burns needs someone to remain a number of years to rebuild the excitement for football. Someone with a home in the county will stay longer and will have pride in any success that happens.

True Go Devils . I am happy for coach Devine . From what I know of the guy I like him alot. I just fell bad for coach cog. I know this was a decision Blanton probably lost sleep over . I have watched almost every practice the last three years and see what this man does for the kids and the program. Especially the last 2 years where he went way way above and beyond. Ask any player who they played for last year and they will tell ya. Not a slam against Dave at all . I am excited to have him but I sure hope coach C stays but I would not blame him if he didn't. Either way it's going to a challenge . Middle school went 2-4, jv 2-7, varsity 3-7. Now don't get me wrong....this senior group is good enough for 7 or 8 wins next year with hard coaching and dodging the injury bug. I wonder if divine is bringing coaches along or if he is able to based on positions filled. How does that work in high school for new incoming coaches ? Can current assistants be let go if the new guy has his own coaches wanting to come along?

Short answer is yes. Its done all the time. Especially if its an easily replacable teaching position.

That's what I figured. I know some remain loyal to their head coach not sure how many follow an assistant coach ....we will find out soon.

Dont know why people think other coaches at shelby would be coming with Dave Just because someone heard he may have a young coach coming in with him does not mean its a shelby coach . I could think of quiet a few that he coached with at Burns under coach Greene that he could call on

And in previous post it doesn't state that its other teams, its stated like from Shelby, so in turn Shelby people would think that..
I heard today, which may not be true, that most staff thats there stays and hes allowed to bring 1....
Again i think alot of David and wish him best, i heard lot of people disappointed its not Coddell , but you still cant go wrong with David.
Anyway good luck To David, and Burns

Good Luck to Coach Devine. Nowhere to go but up. Lets hope the Burns faithful are realistic and allow him time to build the program back.

I hope Devine addresses the offensive line first. The game film I saw a couple kids made little effort blocking. Quarterback could have been hurt bad. It starts with the offensive and defensive lines. Definitely need more kids coming out as well. Does Devine start immediately or the end of the school year?

SL these kids and their parents just need to buy in to what coach tells them and work their tales off in the weight room , then things will workout just fine and Burns will be very successful .

It went very well. A good turnout. They greeted people as they came in and Blanton read out his very impressive resume. Bulldog Nation is in good hands!

Ol MG didn't make it but if I did, I would have said, Hey Lawndog, you know what makes a program NOT terrible?

GDG - the line gets better no question....our new OC is one of the best line coaches in the area. I am pretty sure you know him .

Good news LD. Hope everything goes well for Devine. I don't know anything about Devine but I have heard a few western Cleveland County guys say he will get more kids out on the field. Nice to have a coach committed to staying home and improving the program at all age levels.

Things are going well so far. He has started to get out in the community with Subway fundraiser nights and elementary school visits and he has put on speed camps. Booster club turnout has improved tremendously as well. We just need an opponent for Week 1 now that the Q Foundation has decided not to field a football team in 2016.

Had not heard Pack was coming back. Last I heard he had bought a house in Hickory so I assumed he would be staying here awhile. Never met Pack but he was doing a great job here. Sounds like Burns is on the right path.

Nothing official yet GDG.....But ain't that the purpose of message boards ...telling things before they become official ...lol.....I always liked Pack. This senior group played for him in JV ball so it should be a pretty smooth transition as well as going back to the offense that Matt runs. I would assume that's what Pack will put in but again just rumor and speculation. I know that he and Matt have been together a long time and when I first heard it I just figured the drive from Shelby daily was just too much but then I did hear he lives in Hickory now so idk. Pack is also undefeated as a basketball coach ...just ask him and he'll tell ya...:)
