And maybe a couple. I don’t watch much cbb outside uk what kind of talent did that team have? It dawned on me last night this is probably the most talented team butler has played on. Maybe I’m wrong. Idk but that guy punching you in the mouth on defense and then the ability to nail a 3 in the face is demoralizing for opponents. I feel as though even though he’s a senior he is growing because of the guys around him. Hell I may be completely wrong but the only player I hear consistently from that team is Terrance Shannon and I’m not even 100% he’s the right guy. Does butler have more of a ceiling than normal senior transfers?

Terrance Shannon played for Illinois, Butler played for San Diego State. Probably not as much overall talent but they went to the final game.

Field of 68 suggested that UK might be close to their ceiling. I disagree just because we're still working on our offense, defense, and conditioning. A lot.

There are individual deficiencies like Butler's free throws that we will work on and that I expect will improve. Can you imagine if Amari had a go-to post move? What about a consistent three from Garrison? What happens when Chandler comes along more?

I think Butler needs to really work on finishing at the rim and free throws, and I think he will elevate his game. Absolutely, I can see him having room to grow, but so do all of our seniors. Almonor and Kriisa probably are what they are at this point, but that's not a bad thing. I think every other senior has a ton of upside to tap into. Brea's been elevating his play at UK.

Man, it's fun to watch.

We are definitely closer to our ceiling, but March is a different animal. The teams winning titles have lots of experienced players and the teams built with freshmen usually pee down their legs.

Plus, injuries play a factor. That's what derailed that Zion team.

If we can stay healthy, get Amari a back-to-the-basket game, improve rebounding and get more steady on the ft line, we'll be extremely tough to beat.

Plus, we should have fewer regular season losses, which will help with seeding. Although, we play in a stacked conference this year, the ACC is way down. But the metrics will show that.

I don’t buy this garbage that we are near our ceiling. Having upperclassmen help get out the gate quick but teams are made in the sec schedule. Yeah we have the pieces but it takes league play to build a team. Not to mention pope is going to have several different looks with his line ups. I don’t buy we are near our ceiling

I think we may be around 50% total offense install for the year. Team can still absolutely still improve in every facet. You can tell by the way Pope talks about them. He doesn't think they are anywhere near their potential. Total donkie take.

It's way more talented and it's why Butler looks almost like a different dude than he looked on SDSU.

i whiffed on Shannon but you don’t have to be an ulcerative cock.
I wasn't making fun of your whif on Shannon.

I was simply stating that your post was very difficult to understand.

And I quote: "Butler Question. And maybe a couple. I don’t watch much cbb outside uk what kind of talent did that team have?"

I still don't understand wtf you were asking.

But go ahead and call me an ulcerative cock. It sounds painful. From experience??? ;)

Your comprehension issues aren’t my problem. I think enough people understood what I was asking, what I was trying to generate discussion about. I’ve been having some significant med problems lately and haven’t even been able to post much. No one considers such things and makes crap personal. Learn to read between the lines

I'm not quite sure where the question is there, but Butler played for a Final Four team. So I'm not sure you can say this is the the most talented team he's been on. Heck, his team was one of the few teams in the country that gave UCONN competition BOTH of the last 2 years in the tournament. They might have been a national champion without the existence of UCONN.

I don't think we are anywhere near our ceiling, despite what some of the media might wish were true. None of these guys have played together before, and none have them have played in Pope's system before. People think they can't improve just because they are all upperclassmen? I think that's silly.

Man, it's fun to watch.

The idea we’re near our ceiling when we haven’t even put together a complete game lets you know how lazy most sports “journalists” truly are.

Put the acid away bro. You’re not even close. St pat made it personal. It’s right there factual in front of your face. Because you don’t have the capacity to as I said “read between the lines” doesn’t give license to say “everyone is dummer for reading that”. That’s what his little meme says But yeah I’m in the wrong. Idk what your problem is but you have personal issues too. Put them out there and mend them or put me on ignore. this crap isn’t productive.

Several people could read that and make sense of it. I’m sure you could too. It’s just personal issues put them out there let’s get them out of the way so we can enjoy our team. Anyone with a personal issue with me right here air your grievance. I was right about cal before most and you hate it and I was 100% correct about wheeler. You guys hate that stuff. It’s time to get over it

I just posted this in another thread, but seems appropriate here to repeat.

"In some ways our team won't improve much more. Talent wise, these guys are experienced enough, but they are what they are, not going to improve individually significantly (exceptions may be Chandler, Garrison, & especially Oweh).
But in terms of playing together, knowing where each other are and where their "spots" are, that chemistry, as well as getting settled into Pope's system, I think certainly can improve."

There are several reasons we aren't close to our ceiling, many mentioned here. A big thing is these guys are playing for a great coach and at the UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY. You combine good experienced players with a staff that encourages you to embrace being on the big stage at UK and you get guys getting a lot better. This roster is so complimentary I expect we'll keep progressing too. Despite some of our guys being old for college they're still young men with plenty of room for improvement.

Say what?

The college basketball revolution to me was like a story I know called the College Team That Lost it's Way. The world was changing, and college basketball was getting bigger. So you see, the college basketball team was like industry, in that they were both lost in the woods and nobody, "the fans", new where to find them. Except that the college basketball team was a dog, but Coach Pope, my friends, that was the revolution. KENTUCKY BASKETBALL RULES!!!

Yeah I 100% agree. I will agree that duke has a higher ceiling, but at the same time, they may not come close to hitting that ceiling this year. I believe UK will.

We dealt with this every year with Cal. Future NBA potential doesn't win titles in college unless those kids are special talents. Are Cooper Flagg, Maluach and Kneupple in that 'special' category? I'm not sure. Flagg isn't uber athletic, he's just a sound basketball player.

I'm just glad we have a team that is going to be consistently good every time they step on the floor. They might come out flat in some road games and lose, but I'll take that over a group of thrown together HS kids that look good one game, then disjointed the next 5 games.

He is tough as nails he hit that floor extremely hard and I know he was in pain but like the gritty athlete he has become instead of laying on the floor squirming and crying he jumped right up like nothing happened

Agreed. They might be experienced players but all but one of them are playing in a different offensive and defensive system than they played in last year and none had any experience playing with each other so I think there's plenty of room to improve as a team. Also, most if not all of our players played for lesser coaching staffs last year so some players might get some individual improvement from that.
