Our players weren't good enough this year, they gave their best effort and the coaches schemed the best they could but when you don't have the guys you get the results we saw. Rhule fired him because it revealed he isn't developing players and recruited undersized players who would compete in the aac or mac, but not the big10. His evaluations have been bad. He needs to get a big portal class and get players that other teams have recruited and developed. Supposedly we have deep pockets this year, hopefully he gets some guys in the portal.

I’m surprised I hadn’t heard Butler say that. Dam, I hate that I missed that. Do you have a link. Or is it more a rumor. Not questioning. I believe you, Just like to see it

Talent was obviously a huge issue. Just think to yourself how many of thee guys are going to get drafted. Emmett Johnson is probably a 3rd - 4th rounder. And that's about it right now. That just can't compete. We need to be cutthroat in the offseason and send a lot of guys who are marginal talents packing and take a huge number from the portal. Speed on defense is the reason we can't tackle anyone in space. Watching Miami yesterday it was stunning to see how much we lack athleticism.

2026 will seal Matt Rhules fate and lets be honest about this because we know he's running out of excuses. He will either finally get his assistant coaches in place and he will finally get the right players out of the portal or he will fail with his plan to make Nebraska a beast as he has stated before in a presser. This is final year to prove he is a head coach and not just a used car salesman who sells lemons. Nebraskan's deserve better, Nebraska fans nationally deserve better.

I think it' time we stop talking about our past and look to the future and sometimes that means taking a chance on young up and coming coaches who have proven they know how to win but just need a chance. Let's face it we are not elite, not even close the only thing we have that is elite is our facilities. At some point you have to burn down the chicken coop and start from scratch and it can be done but it takes guts from the major donors to clear their minds and see a new path. Oh and by the way HAPPY NEW YEAR to all.

It was obvious we needed a better NT/Dt. A big assed stud DT would have made our DLine and inside backers all look better.
I think coaches overthink these things. We have at least a few bodies on the offensive line with enough size and quickness to play 10-15 snaps at nose tackle. Which is only a little less usage than what we had with Nash in his last year. You can pay $1+ million for a decent NT which is essentially a specialist, or just share the load among a few OLine which is a more efficient use of NIL dollars with net cost of zero.

Big Mac must not be very good if Knaack started at guard ahead of him 😕

Meh talent is an issue as to why we likely lost to PSU and Utah. It's not a reason we lost to Iowa/Minnesota. That's coaching right there.
Iowa’s QB was the main reason they made us their prison biotch. Their O line is legit this year as well. Yes. Iowa had more talent at the most important position on the field.

We lack good coaches AND good talent. That is why we are so f$cking bad on defense. And our 2026 recruiting class in terms of talent is a damn disgrace and a national joke. Hopefully the new DC changes things for the better. But in my opinion firing Butler and hiring the new guy is like putting a bandaid over a malignant skin melanoma and then declaring a cure. The cancer remains underneath the cosmetic covering and that cancer is Matt Rhule.

Is that talent or development. I go with the latter. Regarding their QB he is pretty darn good at being like Tebow inside the 5.

They’ve developed some players no doubt but had to buy a QB in order for them to win this year. Their QB was a difference maker.

Watching Indiana for the first time today. It appears while Jimmies and Joes matter, X&O matter more. Their recruiting has been meh but here they are #1.

I know they have a few guys that won awards and stuff but it is not like those guys were big time gets in the portal or out of HS. I guess maybe they were and I just don't know.

But on defense it seems like they know the play before the ball is snapped.

Now, if Cigs can follow Rhule's 3rd year jump. They will go 29-0 next year.

They could tell us every play before it happens, and still win by 20

This part makes no sense.

Rhule isn't recruiting well and also, not developing players so he fires his DC because of it?

Cig just knows how to develop his players AND give them the right mindset.

Indiana D just making plays and hitting HARD. Rarely do their guys whiff, arm tackle or make pattycake tackles.

Someone on the Reddit husker thread made the most ridiculous defense of Matt Rhule I have ever seen. He was saying if he had OSU roster at Nebraska we would be top 5 in the playoffs. Day is only good because of talent and there is nothing magical he foes as a coach that Rhule can’t.

In no world is Rhule as good as Day. Rhule could have a Super Bowl championship roster and still not be able to beat a ranked college team.

Rhule is going to be on a flaming hot seat next year because the only person left to fire to place blame is Holgerson. unfortunately he probably survives and coaches in 2027 and we sink even lower.

I don’t want to be a doomer and think it’s going to be 2028 before we have hope again but I just don’t see how it gets better once Matt runs out of used car sermons.

I'll only be worried about our 2026 HS recruiting class if our portal class is also really bad.

If we get a top portal class, the HS class isnt as worrisome, imo.

They have the Jimmies and Joes too. They had some good O linemen when Cignetti got there. Frost’s last year Indiana’s starters had a higher average star ranking than Nebraska’s starters. Then they brought in very good portal players to fill holes. QB most notably.
